Wow. I'm glad i have those special shock plugs. The power cable in my base speaker was loose and it just sent a nasty shock into my leg. I involuntarily kicked myself back from my desk and i felt the power reach up to the middle of my thigh before it cut out.

Gave me rather a fright....heh, you could say a nasty shock even. :|

I dread to think what would have happened if i had felt it reach into my...well, you're all guys.

Ive been shocked before, and this feels pretty similar (Although last time it was in my arm). I reckon i should be alright but im gonna go get checked out in the morning.

I think im gonna go to bed now.

I hate electric shocks. I'm probably lucky to be alive. When I was like 8 years old, I wondered what would happen if I took the light bulb out of the socket, replaced it with my finger and then flipped the switch.

Needless to say I didn't do that again.

Also needless to say, I'm lucky I'll ever have the opportunity to decide never to do that again ;(

I have been electrocuted before, only because after so much time working with electrical stuf, you get too confident and done turn the breakers off. So i deserve it, and yeah, it always sucks.

After working on TV/Monitors for years you get used to it. ;)

never been electrocuted, had a leg break, or even stung by a bee. charmed life?

If you can live through an electrocution, like we all evidently have, nearly, then I'd say a leg break is probably worse.

I broke my arm in two places when I was 11, that ****ing hurts. A leg must be worse.

Hehe. I broke both of my collar bones. I got a nasty shock a few times. It hurts a bit. Did you see the blue?

Hurts...don't try putting paper clips into a plug.

Chris...your avatar is mocking me....

ive had several small electrocutions---but ive broken my left arm twice. once when i was 9 I fell out of a tree and broke my arm in 2 places, and my wrist, then I just had a hairline fracture rollerblading when i was 11.

The absolute worst thing - Paper cuts.... beats breaking any apendage hands down.

that was what? 110? Thats nothing man...had that no less then 6 times, ranging from key in socket to fixing speakers (Hit myself a number of times there) to lamps to ac/dc converters to...I dunno...I've been hit alot with 110.

then again, I'm also the type that test 9volt batteries by licking them. Yum.

220...now THAT is something to talk about. :)

Never broken a bone, Never had an electric shock (over 12v), only needed a bandage after an operation once, and only had stitches once.

Guess i'm just too elite to let my concentration slip. That's when stupid things happen, y'know. That and when you're too young to concentrate. or care.

I'm uber cautious boy. never broken a bone, never had surgery. There was one time when I was younger though... we were setting up christmas lights, and we plugged them in. One bulb was missing so I got the genious idea of plugging that hole. Resulted in an unhappy Snowball.

When I was younger(I was around the age of believing in Santa Clause) I took this plug from the head phone and stuck it in my mouth...t'was addicting. But I stopped because it hurt:(. But some idiots in my tech-ed class started doing that to look cool.

I dont have any electrocution stories. But let me tell you this.

Make sure you NEVER EVER break your thumb. I did once, and it hasnt been the same since. :(

Whats more annoying is that I do martial arts and it hurts whenevr I punch anything with my right hand now. ;(

110....220....it's just voltage.

If you've ever rubbed a balloon on your head and had it shock you then you've been shocked by 50,000 volts.

i woke up on the floor of my room, all i remember is switching on the lamp.

my parents said there was a big bang and then the power went off

they found me on the floor just as i regaind consiousness

Never been electrocuted.. Unless doing it to yourself with a battery counts..
I've got a splinter in my foot - stung by wasps like 20 times.
almost drowned when i was a kid - I've had ear inflammation 29 times in my life (im 18 years old).. Still got my hearing though.. "The doctors" told me that I'll be deaf like.. 5 years ago.. =D

I got a nasty shock off my car battery while replacing it, that's never a fun thing to do. There were lots of semi-serious shocks and sparks and I was waiting for a bigger, more serious one. :|

damn. and you live in england. you guys got that 220 volt shit dont you? OUCH!

Hate to sound like a broken record but it's just that this aspect of electricity is widely misunderstood. The voltage of a current does not matter in the context of being shocked. You can be shocked by a 500,000 volt current and you'll be fine. The static electricity produced by shuffling your feet on a carpet is going to have a much higher voltage than any electrical socket. Amperage on the other hand is what really matters. This measures the actual electrical current. This is what you have to watch out for as a very small amount of current can kill you. I seem to remember that it was something like 0.4 amps that could kill a person, though that might be rather off as I don't really remember. Of course it is usually difficult for a person to experience a lethal level of current as the human body has a reasonably high electrical resistance when it comes to things like electrical outlets or batteries. But if you lower that resistance at all it will kill you easily.

Alright, I'm done with the lecture. Carry on.

Voltage is irrelevant. It's just the carrier.

Be scared of amps though - that's what's going to kill you.

All I can say on the subject of electrical shocks is:

Never clean the end of a telephone cable off by licking it. Ever.

I wath dawkig wike dith fo' ageth.

... Actually, I could probably say more, but I can't be arsed.

Never happened to me, but there are quite some people who pissed against an electrified fence (you know, for keeping the cows in) in a drunk mood. That is supposed to hurt like hell.

Been shocked more times than I can count...both mild and those ones that make you twitch and jump. :D
The craziest part is how it messes with your nerves so that limb feels all twitchy for a while.
I've actually never broken a bone, although I've certainly done enough stupid stuff to deserve it. Closest call was when I was hit by a ski bar that decided to seperate itself from my boat. Almost severed the nerve in my arm. :D

When i was little I tried to get my flashlight workin on electricity, i did this with unportected wires wich i was holding with my hands because i coudnt find a plug... put it in the electricity, after that ive always played it safe ^^
its worse then braking something if u ask me, I broke my hip when i was drunk (on a bike x( ) didnt really hurt i do have 3 long titanium screws in my hip and sometimes i can feel them >:(

[edit] except the 2 weeks i had to sleep in the hospital ofc [/edit]

I've never had a serious electric shock, broken any bones or been stung by a bee, another lucky one is me. But my science teacher always does this thing with the static electricity maker thing that makes your hair stand on end. He gets the whole class (about 25 people) to hold hands and the last person touches a metalic object, funny as hell watching all these people jump in shock and all thse girls screaming :P oh yeah and also he attatched the wire up to the doorhandle and shocked people who came in lol ;D

oh yeah, if your a red dwarf fan i didnt mean bryl cream!

the things we create will be the end of us.. i belive thats a pretty true statement, whether it is referring to indiciduals or the entire race.

What? ....

In middle school tech ed class we made lamps with a fully disasmeblable(word?) plugs. Of course I had to take the cover off and plug it in while touching both metal things.
Also in a physics class i took over the summer the teacher was teaching us about conductivity i think and brought out a little power generator attached to a lightbulb and told us to touch the screws that held the wires in. Fun times. :D

Nope, but I have had the fortune to turn on a miswired old lightswich with no faceplate on it. Things didnt taste right for a few days after that one

I've been shocked a few times. At my friends house I went to plug in his PS2 and unplug his Xbox. I was putting the plug in and I heard a loud pop and one section of my friend's house lost electricity. Not shocked, but I blew the fuse.

A kid I sat next to for lab in chemistry was a major pyro. He'd go back to the lab tables and grab the isopropyl alcohol on his way back...and he always carries matches. He started so many tabletops and sides on fire. Anyways, there's drain lids to keep larger crap from going down there, one day, we were cleaning them and he grabbed the drain cover and pulled it out. He soon noticed that the underside looked exactly like a plug. So being the genious he is, he plugs it into the nearest socket, making a loud pop and blowing the electricity for the whole room. I should thank him though, apart from cancelling the lab, it did look pretty cool, a ton of sparks flew back at him.

Another time in my physics class our teacher had a little shock thing he brought in, he had a dial on it to increase the current and he had people come up. You just grab the two wire ends with your thumb and forefinger and hold on while he ups the current on you. Lots of people just got all jittery and didn't last long (hate to say it, but all the girls lasted like a split second) but some stuck it out 'till he got to the top and they'd have the weirdest look on their face or they'd be yelling, "AAAAHHHHH". I step up I put my fingers on, "You ready?" he says. He starts slowly upping the current. At first there was only a mild pulse shock on the tips of my fingers, and as it went up it carried into the rest of my hands. I just sat there smiling. "That was the smoothest I've seen someone go through it. Try getting your fingers wet first and then see how long you can go" Sure, this might hurt, but I wanna see how far I can go and just how bad it wil hurt.

So my fingers are dripping with water and I start again. As soon as he turns it on the shock already was reaching my wrists and was quite a bit more intense than before. So he starts slowly turning it up. He got about halfway (good thing he did) when the shock was to my shoulders. Any further and I would've told him to turn it because I don't want shock near my neck or heart. That was fun, but it didn't really hurt like people said it did...it was pretty easy.

One other thing: The same day in the same class a kid had brought and invention of his own. I don't know how he did it or what exactly was going on...but it was crazy. It was just a little strip-sorta chip thing with two little node thingies on the end (extensive electronics knowledge I know :P ) that he told me to put on the back of my hand between my forefinger and thumb and press down.

"What happens?"
"You'll see"
"Is it painful?"
"Kinda"

So I start pressing down on this thing that's just hooked up to a 9V battery and as I push...the weirdest feeling came over my hand. It felt like a needle (at least 2mm thick) was piercing into my hand. The harder I pressed the deeper it felt to go in. It was crazy. It sorta hurt, but not terribly...and as soon as I took it off the pain went away in like 2 seconds.

^^^^^^^
Anyone with knowledge of electronics that can explain what that was would be appreciated.

EDIT: Oh yeah...no broken bones yet....and I've had stiches a few times. The worst one was just on my brow-line when I was little I got jacked by a metal pointy edged doorknob...fun times.

I loosened the entire thing that holds the lightbulb in the lamp in the ceiling in my room, tried to put it back and sort of tried to straighten out the two small cords inside.. accidently touched them both, I just felt like my entire body started pulsating, my first thought was "get down from the ****ing chair", I jumped down and was all shocked, heh.. My heart went a little faster, and I'll never touch anything like that again.

9 volts do have some considerable power for their size. I'm guessing it was hooked to a capacitor to increase the charge and then shocks you on contact.
