So is Gabe thinking of making Counterstrike 2?

for a guy who could probably purchase a european country and still have enough to pay off the US' debt he sure does dress shabbily. also I would rather a new ip

He does that for everything pretty much. When Valve says "I can't say" it doesnt mean they are. I dont think I've ever heard them just flat out say "No, we wont ever make that game."

lol the weird noise Gabe makes in response to the question is pretty hilarious. I'd love to see CS2.

I remember fantasizing about CS2 in 2003. I know Valve would think of some really cool new things to bring to Counter Strike, and even though I am not a CS player I would be interested in seeing it.

Though I will shoot myself in the face if it turns out to be like CoD, in any way shape or form. Like even if it has the stupid XP system with unlockable shit and upgrades.

Tactical Intervention is pretty much Counter-Strike 2.

Apparently it's in closed beta but I haven't heard anything about TI since the news Minh had left Valve to develop it with some South Korean company.

If Valve ever do release CS2 I expect it will be a completely different beast from the original in the same way TF2 was from TF1.

The fundamental problem with CS is that it's an intimidating game for new players to get into nowadays. I only got into CS when condition zero came out (I was at Uni and internet-less before then) and I spent a good few months just getting my ass handed to me repeatedly by guys with AWPs bunny hopping around corners (Boom!! Headshot!!! indeed) until I'd learnt the maps and familiarized myself with all the weapons. 2 years after than having played innumerable hours and joined a clan I'd of said I was a decent CS player, but still far from a top dog. Some of the people you'd meet would just be plain scary in terms of skill level (one of my clan mates refused to play with any gun but the deagle for about a month and he was utterly destroying people with it after a week or so).

The necessity is therefore to come up with a game than naturally appeals to the hardcore CS/CS:S player base (which is still quite plentiful) as an extension of the existing, but at the same time is accessible to new players as well. A tricky proposition overall, though if there is anyone capable of finding that solution I guess it would be Valve.

Why you gotta dis the Kool-Aid Man's red shirt?

They got away with this because the Fortress community, while pretty hardcore, was relatively small. Look at the numbers of people who were playing TFC years after its release. Look at the number of people playing Fortress Forever or Q3F. It weren't many. Because of the (relatively, as far as player statistics are concerned) low number of fans, outcry about anything changed from previous iterations of the Fortress series to TF2 was minimal, and therefore negligible. Compare that to Counter-Strike, both CS and CS:S. The game is a phenomenon. It isn't hyperbole to say that CS is to FPS what WoW is to MMOs. And if you fuck with its formula you're gonna lose a significant amount of your audience. I can tell you one thing, if the game's ever released it'll never be Hat-Strike 2.

Never got to hear it :( @morgs, the pixelatomy link worked fine for me.

Nice song, definitely needs the video edited so it matches that audio so you can put it on youtube.

Edit: I do think it'd be funnier if you didn't alter the pitch of gabe's voice/noises at any point (at least not by very much) because it sounds way funnier when you recognise his voice.

I laughed so hard that I hiccuped really hard and it hurt. **** you Veg.

Just had a look at TI in the new issue of PCGAMERUK, and it doesn't look like CS at all. To name a few additions there are Helicopters, Rappel Points, Attack Dogs as well as a car chase between Counter Terrorists and Terrorists
