my wireless network router has blown up, so im having to use the 'family computer' instead of my super computer. Whilst using msn i noticed that whenever i sent a message, a link to some internet site appeared. I downloaded adaware, and its less than a quarter done scanning and thres 200 new critical objects! I mean, come on. I dont know what sites my little brother goes on, but how can you get so much spyware??

Get M$ antispyware, update it and run it ... it'll find most stuff. Keep the agents running, and also get something like lavasoft adaware and run it once a month.

Hardware firewalls make good investments too, but you should still clean the machine once a month or so anyway. My familys PC downstairs is protected behind multiple firewalls and a couple of realtime scanners/agents yet my family STILL find ways to get the thing infected. I couldn't get that much crap on that machine if I tried, I don't know how they manage it when they aren't even trying.

Ah well.

I put a perfectly fine computer I'd had since 2001 in my parents room when I built a new one. It was in tip top shape still and I kept it ultra clean.

A month later, I can't use it due to the amount of virii and spyware it has :/

Some people don't know how to take care of their systems

At first I was like M$? What could that mean? Then I realised you replaced the S with a $ implying that they make a lot of money. How clever.

true. but popups should be banned from the net. even steam has popups sneaked into it. only get popups when i play through steam....ffs so annoying.

What popups?

Or are you referring to the one that announces the weekly Valve update?

Steam has no pop ups other than the Weekly Update and ones that you select to have in your options.

:/

My sister's computer had so much spyware on it that it phsyically crashed my HijackThis. I had to use a combination of programs- each geared towards different types- in order to remove them without difficulty.

As Rakurai said, some people are utterly computer-ignorant.

Popups aren't really a problem for me, it's all up to the site's owner as far as those go, I can block them anyway with the browser. It's spyware and malware that need to be taken care of.

Steam doesn't have any popups ;x. I think maybe you have spyware on your system that's triggering when you use it or something.

My work's record amount of Spyware is 6000 objects on one computer + 32 virii

:D

I ran adaware once :-/
It only found stuff i wanted

For a while I was Reformatting my hardrive every 2-3 weeks  But ever since I got Ad-Aware Professional and followed this routine:

-Scan with Ad-Aware Professional 1 or 2 times a day
-Scan with Norton Antivirus once a week

I have never had another problem :E

SuperSex_TRACKEr.dll? :D

anyway, 200? that's quite a bit. But not a lot if the computer isent scanned regularly.

I hope it wasn't yours :P

At least, (most of) you guys have your own computers to play games and such. In my house, only my good computer can get internet access (LONG story) so I'm constantly confronted with my little sister wanting to come online and look up all this gossip crap on a certain star (shes at that age). Ugh, talk about frustrating. It's only a matter of time before she gets through my barrier and crashes my $3000 computer.
