So uh, what’s the motivation?

So I am stuck in… eh… corridors… name of the level is. Well, it’s like corridors, dark corridors with lots of computers… imps jump out of the walls. Okay, I just forced myself to finish Alpha Labs and I am now in some other Labs or maybe not labs at all, whatever, everything looks the same anyway, for me to tell the difference. So now, tell me, where is motivation in the game? I heard some people played this game just to see Hell, other wanted to see all the monsters, I don’t really care about either of those things. I am in a lab, and every two inches there is a monster behind the wall, and it’s not changing. Will it change at all? I can’t force myself to play this game, it’s complete bore now, not even scary anymore.

I should just turn this game back and get myself Sexy Beach 2.

I just got to and beat Hell, and let me say, it was definitely worth the wait.

i suggest just rushing through the game as fast as possible just to get to hell, the place is the best part of the gameplay of doom3

But was it worth $50... hmmm.

i felt the same way, but i decided to just finish the damn game regardless... once you hit a point where you can call for backup... it gets really scary again... i haven't gotten to hell yet, but i don't think i'll be disappointed in it...
i suggest sexy beach 2 if the game didn't scare you in the begining, that won't change
it's sad, such pointential... wasted... way to go id

At least it's a great engine! :D

When you find that you're forcing yourself to play a game, STOP RIGHT AWAY AND UNINSTALL IT or play it once a week if you ever have the urge to.

It's meant to be fun, not a chore.

See the only reason I am forcing myself is because I paid for it. Your statement is true of course and like I thought for a long time now, FPS genre became stale and boring TO ME. Either HL2 changes that or I will focus on RPGs and adventure games only.

not to harp on u in particular Mr. Reak but i am sorta sick of these "omg what a waste of money Doom3 was" threads.
this place has had enough of its share of these types of threads... and frankly.. if u don't like the game, don't play it, go return it.. or whatever.. but really.. another one of these threads? please... its getting annoying.. just a little.

pple here get the point.. not everyone liked Doom3.. and the same will be true for HL2. time to get over that.

I can say your typing is annoying too, will you type normal if I said it? No, hence the point still holds. Really, the weakest argument you can give me here “if you don’t like this game, don’t play it”, the strongest I guess is “another bs topic, where people complain about Doom III”. That to be expected though, in Doom III forum. We can ask mod to make “DOOM III SUXOR or something to the effect thread and stick it, so people will moan and bitch there.

that's what i did after trying to re-play doom3 after the first run through, and from your tone of your voice about the game, the one thing i'd suggest above all suggestions is that if possible, return the game and save your money for something more to your tastes

That's exactly the reason i finished it, because i paid for it. :(

I fully agree. One of two things is happening
1. FPS games are getting crapper

or

2. I'm personally getting sick of them and nothing will impress me anymore.

If I hate hl2, then i too will retire from single player FPS games.

whatever man.. the least u could have done.. is gone and posted in one of those other threads which have complaining and such in them.

and how is "don't play the game, or return it" a weak arguement? infact, returning it would get u, ur money back.. no? but whatever.. u complaining is not gonna make the game better, and definitely won't get u ur money back either. :|

If you just want get scared then why dont you try out cheap scary games like resident evil series.Doom3 is not all about the usual zombie surprises... But it definitly scares the #$#& out of you in a DIFFERENT way.

uh...yea actually it is about the usual, generic, and bland zombie surprises, they just pop out from doors and there's a monster in front of your face a lot of times when you open a door, it's nowhere near psychological scary games like silent hill or someting.

It’s funny, because Doom III is ALL ABOUT cheap scare tactics, at least from the beginning to the Alpha Labs 4. It’s like Resident Evil again, except you can’t see shit. If you want to get scared in different way, play some levels from Thief III.

I feel the same,.... really unfortunate since FPS is my fave genre...

or maybe I will wait till Unreal 3 engine games before I totally give up.

Hell is the best level in the game, unfortunately its the only level with Hell in it anyway

I'm reaching Delta Labs and the whole game feels the same....the scariest scene I remember was the intro to the spiderheads.

Stick with it, Doom 3 does get better :)

It's almost a game of two halves - the first being slightly boring and repetitive, and the second being exciting, hectic and more varied. If only it were consistent.

What was the intro to the spiderheads? I just remember them spawning in a room with the ladder not working

b4 the first time you saw them there was a room with ppl hanging from the ceiling and then they appeared.

The only thing that scared me in the game was the first appearance of the pinky demon - man I was all tensed up that it might bite the living crap out of me - when it was trying to break the door and then suddenly broke through the glass. But it was too easy to kill, I later found out. None the less, it was one of D3's best scares, and pretty much nothing after that scared me.

My motivation for getting through the game was..well, it was pretty fun, but it was scary so I kind of wanted to get through it, you know, to stop the demons from scaring me?

Also I was interested to see what would happen at the end.

I kind of wish it had of shown the way home, or on Earth...I love those parts!!!

It could be worth the money a few months from now (assuming your opinion doesn't change) once decent mods start to be released for it. I don't know much about what is being developed but I am pretty sure there will be some decent mods released for it.

Well, here is a very good argument for keeping a game, and I will gamble and go with his opinion. What I am scared of though, that all mods will be multiplayer, like UT2004 mods, and I don’t really like multiplayer mods that much. Oh glory, please, System Shock 2 on Doom III engine and that’s all I need.

Oh yes :) I'd rather have that (done properly) than HL2.

The only thing that truly freaked me out in D3, is that empty corridor where the disembodied female voice says something about her baby being taken away.

*chills*

I found those moments to be rather cliche... probably why nothing in D3 scared me.. unfortunately

i just finished doom 3 . verdict : mediocre game,quite boring & repetitive. 6.5/10

oh but one funny thing i saw. On the very last level when you go and meet the final boss it goes into sort of cut scene mode and u see ur chararcter step through the big boss legs, he looks up and mouths the word " F**K" lol . its the only part i actually laughed during the whole game.

Man, I have only 2 years left in my life, in all my time I can only say that I have played 2 good, really good games, Half Life and Max Payne /2. Those are the only games that I can call amazing, I thougt that Doom 3 was going to be a good game and be worth all this wait but no, all I have in hope is Half life 2, If they blew it, that's it for game for me.

HL2 will determine if I'll be a gamer when I'm 80 or if I stop paying attention to games before I turn 25. No pressure, Valve

I'm that same way too. I've played lots of good games, but only about twelve truly great ones. Maybe I've just got too high standards.
