I have a confession to make. I have never, ever, played Doom. Not nr1, not nr2.
So, could someone please explain what all the hype is about? Why is Doom3 so special? Should I spend my hard-earned cash on it? Should I just ignore it?

Alternatively, you could try the demo when it's released and judge for yourself whether it is your cup of tea or not.

Actully, the hype is about a 10-year old zombie taking breath in fresh air. Beat that!

I'm intrested in how it plays - I really want to know that how the weapons sound and are used - what are the play mechanics, how do you switch fast from gun to flashlight and back. How it helps in making you feel scared. I really want some game to scare me - the graphics for me are just the same thing as Far cry (no biggy, really) but I want to play and use those 10 year old stored weapons and kick some demon ass!

I think the fact that you haven't played the 1st and 2nd installment pretty much explains why you don't get what everybody is on about. I played the Doom demo - when was it? - ten years ago and it started my love for the fps-genre. That's why this hype is partly about nostalgia, just like with HL2. I wouldn't want to say if you should buy it or not. To put it very objectively: Doom3 is an oldskool horror shooter. If you detest that kind of game, don't buy it. In all other cases: do buy it.

There was just something about Doom that made it good. Then the fact it spawned so many other games in its style, Then Quake did the same, now DIII will do the same again.

i think Shakermaker summed up the nostalgia part very nicely.
but for u that doesn't matter since u haven't played the original Doom games so i guess for u probably going to be more about the graphics, engine and gameplay. as for the storyline? well the original games had little of that...but this one promises to have more of the storyline stuff so i guess thats another reason why it could be/it is good.

from the looks of all the videos and screen shots, it doesn't seem like u can go wrong by purchasing this game.
