Ive got a socket 939 3800+ x2 Manchester core and I was wondering if its compatible with DDR2. I've seen motherboards with socket AM2 that support 64 x2 processors alongside 240 pin dimm modules. Does that mean that my 3800x2 will run with DDR2 ram?

Nope, they are not interchangeable. Socket AM2 CPUs use DDR2 and Socket 939 CPUs use DDR (they each have a specific memory controller for that memory type built onto the CPU chip not the motherboard). The board simply provides the matching DDR2 slots and AM2 cpu socket OR DDR slots and 939 socket.

Although for some reason the next CPU series on Socket AM3 (with a DDR3 memory controller) will work in Socket AM2 boards and with DDR2.

939 = DDR
AM2 = DDR2

AM3 = DDR3/4 somewhere early 2008 ;)

Then why would motherboards that only have ddr2 slots have support for 939, thats just kinda wierd. Also, check this whats the deal? 3800x2 and ddr2
