Ive been working alot with Softimage XSI EXP, ive just made som simple models of guns. But i wonder how to make the bullet pipe
with a hole, so i just made a cylinder and that sucks. Anyone who could give me a tip? and how big should the model be to work in HL2 ?. And almost forgot when you make gun models should the whole gun be in like 2 "cubes" or should i make a new polygon for each part of the gun ? Or make one polygon object with lots and lots of polygons and draw them... ?

if you decide to extrude a hole into the barrel, you have to make sure the slide doesnt show inside the hole, so you need to carve that too.
basicly this adds lots of unnecessary detail.

If you want a hole in your barrel, just select the polygons in the top of the cylinder with the 'U' key, then press Ctrl+D to duplicate them and move them inwards - like an extrude.

Half life 2 gun models should be around 2000-3000 polygons, press Shift+Enter to get scene information, and check the triangle count.

You can model your gun however you want, there is no restriction of how much parts or whatever... You just have to take in account certain things if you want to animate it later.
