Ok Can someone explain me :
- which type(s) of shader can I use in XSI's hl2 models (supposed to be DX pixel shader? or special hl2 shader type?)
- how to create custom shaders materials etc... in EXP
'cos you know , layout of EXP isn't the same as retail versions so some buttons&functions are missing = most tutorial's aren't 100% usable.

Just use the standard materials for now. Need to wait for more information from Valve on exactly what will be supported shader wise.

If you need to know more about shading in XSI in general I suggest you read the "Shaders, Lights and Cameras" manual which can be found here in your installation...

C:\Softimage\XSI_EXP-for-HL2\EXPWeb\Documentation\html\_start.htm

Just copy and paste the above address into a Netview.

I saw all the documentation but it's dedicated to retail versions which is different from EXP (different layout some buttons/functions missing etc)

If some one have tutorials how to create shaders or manage materials in EXP for HL2 I'd be most grateful

I have just checked the EXP again - all the material and lighting is exactly the same as the retail version of XSI v3.5 - The documentation definitely applies.

Is there something not working for you?

I will write a quick intro guide - but the docs are definitely correct

menus are different (f.e. tere's no such button as "get->material , get->shader etc) but it doesn't mater I'm learning EXP and all help is very needed Thanks in advance!

Download images here (2.5Mb) and follow these steps

1. Create a prim sphere

2. Apply a phong material and draw a render region

3. Enter render module by pressing 3 on your keyboard

4. Apply the texture as shown

5. Create some new UVs

6. Pick your texture file

7. Repeats and tiling is under the advance tab

8. Open the render tree - now you can see the shader you have built

9. Click on a down arrow on one of the nodes to expand it. You will see all the ports into which you can plug nodes

10. Drag the red dot on the texture node to the transparency port on the phong node. Look at the result and then undo

11. Blend a texture doing this...

12. Get some more nodes and start playing... and look at the docs

Great job men BIG Thanks (now I know where to fing get-> shader etc ;P ) and now looking forward to seeing shader programing tutorial;P
