heh i was just thinkin it would kinda be cool if we(hl2.net) made an unoffical(until mod's approve) HL2 clan, this of course could branch off into other mods.
Now the name is a work in progress. i was just going for something to catch your eye, who knows it might stick.
Anywho this for when the game kicks off and so we could belong. There would eventually be an elite team formed, as soon as we find out who is the best and fastest. it can be for fun(normal clan open to anyone *qualified* [not just anyone who joins the boards] ) or for competing (elite team [again another name up in the air, its just meant for u to understand the significance] ).

Go ahead and toss me some of your ideas/comments. This is not going to be a rank (private, sergeant, general, ect.) clan but a serious one(just leader assistant leader and members) . i know we have talent in these forums due to the sheer number of people. post if your interested, prior clan experience. again this is not going to be anyone who wants in gets in. talent is necessary.

this is all up in the air right now, there might not even be an elite (1337 for all u cs players) team it just might be all considered elite without the title.

Clan name, elite team, and other subjects mentioned in this thread are subject to change. if there are better ideas i would like to hear them.

I think this sounds like a very good idea ..... i woul;d love tto be in the clan, if im good enough .... and im not feeling the name ... but its not bad

like i said the name is subject to change. i just need a better one to replace it with that symbolizes hl2 and hl2.net

awesome. You guys will need my skills :p
I think I'm good enough. I'm above average at CS, am usually in the top 3 on hldm, and I hit gold in archery today ;P

Yep, just gotta get the name, some organization, leaders, etc. I think I'll play hl2 single player all the way through before touching multi though. unless I get stuck and annoyed etc. plus, I'll be moving into a house and won't have internet for a few days.

short answer: good idea, I'm in.

doesnt sound like a bad idea, but i dont think im going to join just any team.

we arnt going to allow just anyone - we will have canidates from whoever thinks they're good enough and when hl2 comes out we will see whos good enough.

i would only join if i were a leader, co leader, or something high in rank, no sense in being bossed around. but anyway i think its a pretty good idea.

No offence intended, but I think it's a stupid idea. Generally community website/forum based clans never take off as much as some would have liked them too because of different values and commitment levels within the roster (which happens to be anyone who is a part of that community who wants to participate). These clans are never taken seriously and generally never get anywhere either.

Conflicts of location, ideas and lack of strong management characters are often the downfalls of these groups. A single member can ruin it for everyone because he decides the clan isn't as important or as serious as others might, and decides to try out a new exploit or be an absolute twat on servers.

Players in clans formed under these circumstances are usually never screened well enough, because you don't know enough about them to begin with, ending up with a messy and usually uncoordinated line-up. Player recruitions are usually rash leaps of faith thanks to misplaced motivation for such a step into the clan community.

I could probably ramble for a while longer why I have no faith in these types of ventures, but I'll leave it here.

Once again, no offence intended, just my opinion.

There are certain elements to running a successful clan and having one full of "the most skilled and the fastest" will only bring ego and bad reputation.

You need a group of level headed people who not only have the ability to work well as a team and co-ordinate but also have a high level of skill without the egotistical attitude skill normally brings.

On top of that, and by far the most important thing, you need to have lots of commitment and dedication from everyone within the clan - especially the clan leaders. I say clan leaders because in this day and age there's usually a lot to organise so having one guy organise one thing and another organising something else usually pays off.

Morale plays another important part, this generally comes from the commitment everyone puts in - in my old clan 4Jedi ( mainly ran 24/7 by myself and a guy called ][nfern0 ) we did a one off boost where every night for two weeks ( and I mean every single night ) we had a clan match, sometimes two - and we won them all - and winning 14+ clan matches in such a short space of time is a real morale booster for the members.

As for clan reputation, it's an easy enough formula but not many seem to work it out - You put your team together and play around 10 easy/average clans so you win them all. Once your results page has a 10+ win streak without any draws or losses you can use that reputation to recruit more skilled individuals with the above qualities. With them, plus the skill of your original team you can take on the harder clans and - if you win - repeat the same process. By the way, this works 100x better if you defeat a clan that calls themselves "the best at the game". ;)

Another thing about building a successful clan and something I admit I never liked is that you must try and take the skilled individuals from the weaker clans / clans you defeat. This, 8/10 times ends up destroying that clan as they lose all morale and just give up but it helps you out in the end.

Your end result should be something a bit like this.

Oh, and if this did happen I imagine the tag would be [hl2.net]

HL2
:D

what, you guys dont have it yet? i've been sharpening my skills for about a week now.

ok im back from last night.

i looked at the name when i entered the forum and cringed at the name i picked last night. on top of that i didnt lay out everything as well as i thought i did. i am aware that we need good dependable leaders.

right now i want u to let this thread die. im going to wait till the game comes out.

and when this returns, if it does, the name will most likely be hl2.net or something to that affect.

Sounds like a good idea. I think still the primary thing for a good squadlive is to have fun while you are gaming. If you have a squad full of don't-chat-but-shoot Rambo's it's more than likely the squad will have a soon downfall. But I'm sure that won't be the case here ;)

As for a name... are 'Soldiers of City 17', 'City 17 Defenders' or 'The 17th Regiment' any good suggestions?

Hey I wouldn't mind being a part of this so called "clan". :)

No tr0n, we have to battle this clan with our superior TJI forces!
