(I, too, got it at best buy, but I got it today, not last week..)
I received the error 1334 almost immediately after beginning installation with disk one. It read:
Error 1334. The file 'halflife_2_base_content.gcf' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'hl2.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
Whatever disk you recieved it on, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. Here's what you do to solve the problem:
-insert and explore ("explore" is found by right-clicking) on the each disk individually through "my computer" and find the cabinet file (it looks like a blue filing cabinet).
-open the cabinet file and check to see if the file "halflife_2_base_content.gcf" is there (remember, do this for each disk until you find the file!)
-once you've found the disk w/this file in its cabinet file, reopen "my computer" and right-click on the D drive (which should have the correct CD in it) and click copy.
-go to your desktop and click paste; it will take awhile for the entire CD to copy..
-once this is finished, take out the disk and reinsert the disk that gave you the error message while installing.
-continue installation with this disk as before, and your computer should automatically locate the file halflife_2_base_content.gcf in the folder of the copied CD.
-Voila! H A L F - L I F E ² installs and you have the time of your life!!!
Enjoy,
