I got a memory error when I started Half life 2 just after the Valve logo showed up. This error occured just after I edited the config file in the steamapps/Half-life 2/hl2/cfg/config.cfg. I changed the "toggleconsole" command to fit my european AZERTY-keyboard. After I changed the config.cfg file back to the original "bind "~" "toggleconsole"" , the game ran without any problems.( without the console 
). After this I also disabled the console in options --> keyboard --> advanced
