Thinking out loud here....so the GC is officially last in the console race, right?? Selling like 20 million units?? Something like that?? Assuming the PS2 sales represent just about every console gamer on the planet, total sales have eclipsed 80-100M. Factor in Sony quality.....meaning a good % have bought 2...we'll bring that number down to 65M.

Just from a die hard gamer/Nintendo fan POV, does that mean that over 40M poor souls have not played, at length, games like MP, MP2, LOZ:WW, Mario, Resident Evil (0, RM and 4), Rogue Squadron series, Super Smash Bros: Melee, Eternal Darkness, Paper Mario, Tales of Synphonia, etc etc???

That's just plain sad. Even if my calculations are quick and dirty, there's still a tremendous percentage of gamers that have not had the pleasure of playing these outstanding games at length. This is the best 1st party software line-up folks, period and some of the best games available/made ever. I'm sorry. This is just disturbing to me. If you sit there and only play your XBox or you PS2 and don't even take a look at the GameCube....YOU ARE NOT A GAMER. :(

I want to hav a gamecube really but no money

FYI, used ones are like $79.99 at Gamestop. I've seen used ones as low as $59.99 in some stores. :D

ok.....maybe that was a bit harsh.

BUT, the higher that number goes, using Sony as the benchmark, the more disturbing the gaming trend....IMO.

I don't own any consoles at all - what does that make me? :p

I love my Gamecube. But then again, I like my PS2, as well. And I also love my Xbox.

The Ps2 has seriously lost it's appeal, actually. In fact, I'm selling mine to Sulkdodds! It's just all the games are bland and mainstream all of a sudden. Remember when it first came out, and everyone was hyped up about MGS2? When I first played the demo I was blown away. Literally. And Final Fantasy X... sure, it didn't turn out to be revolutionary in the ways that MGS2 was... but my god, plying it made me smile. And Devil May Cry...

Maybe it's just because I'm a PC gamer now, and I don't get hyped up anymore... rather than the games declining in quality. Although, for example, I've played MGS3 recently - which was fun, but in no way came close to the standards of MGS2 when that was released. You can practically hear the engine creaking. Maybe it's just because tyhe PS2 games can't progress...

But if that's the case, why am I sorely uninterested by the PS3 and XBOX360? :/

Okami looks like the most entrancing game I've seen for ages - it would be criminal to miss that

Damn straight. Any gamer who sells their PS2 when Wanda and Okami are so close is completely and utterly insane.

I sold my PS2 a while back, having to use my brothers occasionally to play the excellent DMC3, God of War .... etc. I'm buying another for these two games though.

(the PS2 really has come on strong towards the end of this gen - great machine)

Yeah, to say those that haven't played these games you mention are NOT GAMERS is just ridiculous and frankly something a troll might do, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since you threw some math in there(albeit with some strange extrapolations of the "data" too).

I haven't played any of those games and was considering getting a GC until the Revolution was discussed as having all sorts of serious backward compatibility all the way back to the NES days! Now I will simply wait for that and also get the beneift of being able to play RE4 and the new Zelda, not to mention the aforementioned games that would finally allow me to call myself a "gamer" by your standards.

I didn't have to buy a 2nd or 3rd PS2 either. I got mine the first day it was out in this country(USA) and have had NO trouble with it. The numbers that are flying around about defective units look like they have been through a child's game of telephone.

And I cannot wait for the PS3 either, as Sony has massive developer support and are showing that they too can make games that really show off their system of late.

And to the bored fellow, PS2 is by no means boring right now...maybe you should try the game shop again--you might be surprised! Or ask us for suggestions. What do you like? We are a community and will be happy to help assuage your current-gen ennui.
