hey all!

ok i have a few *maybe noobish* questions i hope get answered by you great people out there.

Ok i have made a level and all i have is a crowbar...

1) i know how to do cubemaps, but for some strange reason the crowbar is all Silver? why is this (and i think the players hands are as well)

2) do i have to build cubemaps everytime?

3) I made a vent and it is PITCH BLACK...when i go in the vent the crowbar model still shows up silver? why is this?

4) in the vent i have made rotating air blades just for show *very small ones*

it is almost pitch black in the vent. i have added a light just above the air blades that rotate....but it doesn't show a rotating shadow? why is this? *it doesn't show a shadow of the rotating blade at all*

5) anyone know how to make PIPES :S hehe sorry i cant seem to find out where?

i'll give it some of these a stab and a hack.

did you place an env_sun/lights in your map? if you did and its still doing it, you can try to type "mat_fullbright 0" into console and see if it helps any. also make sure your not running vrad at "extra" as per another thread.

no just type "restart" after you buildcubemaps, start your map.

I believe if you don't place a light, hammer automagically lights the level to fullbright.

when you say "made" you mean you used brushes or props you found in hammer? if its props, i belive they are only given a default block shadow when rendered. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

sorry can't help you there. but i think there may be some props for pipes, search the world models.

i have added alot of light to my map.

it is just the player hands and crowbar turns up silver when i type buildcubemap the players hands and crowbar turns silver looking colour. and *my map does have light in every room... but when i go in a dark vent the crowbar is still there viewable in a silver looking colour! ARRGH it is wierd!

I made the air blade out of brushes myself and got them to rotate.. but it doesnt cast a shadow when moving? i was wondering how i can do this *if i can do this*

in any of map editor i can make pipes.. in hammer i cant :(

i know how to map (i've been mapping/scripting for 5years with medal of honour and call of duty editor. got awarded Best custom single player campaign for medal of honour *got a delux eddition copy sent to my house for it* hehe.

but never really used hammer. i know all the basics in making maps. and even more advanced mapping. i got a door to work in 4-5 different ways without looking at one tutorial so hey im happy lol.

it is just i have never worked with cubemaps and cant find how to make pipes *TUBES* in the editor. :(

for pipe systems i´d suggest prop_static (someone correct me if that is a bad choice) pipes from the pipes folder within the world models. place the prop_static entity, edit its preferences, assign the appropriate world model, rotate it to your likes and you are done. i can´t help you with a proper alignment of say two pipe models because i´m struggling with that task myself.

cant find how to make pipes *TUBES*
If you mean cylinders, select the brush tool, and under the buttons "toWorld" and "toEntity," there will be two menus, one being Objects. Select cylinder from that menu, set how many Faces you want, and fill your map with as many pipes and tubes as your heart desires.
