Someone keeps vandalizing my property

this is becoming a nuisance. Somebody keeps coming to our house and night and breaking things every couple of months, and is pissing me off. A few months ago someone stole our address numbers (wtf?) and then a few months later our garbage cans were hit mysteriously in the night by a vehicle and destroyed. About a month after that, our newspaper box was destroyed and now last night someone came and broke the window of my dad's truck (200$ to get a new one). U can see the tracks he left in the snow and my dad's out there now taking photos of the boot prints. But i cant figure out who has all this extra time to do this because nobody in my family has any rivals or anyone that would be mad at us, at least that we know of.
 
Just get a camcorder and hide it. Aim the thing at something that would be tempting for a vandal, like maybe go out and buy a bunch of large ceramic gnomes.
 
Yeah, that sounds like the only decent plan to me too.
 
that what i wanted to do, but considering he only comes every couple of months or so, it'd be hard having to reset a camera every day for it, plus it only happens at night so it'd need night vision and those are expensive cameras. Our front yard if fairly large so 1 camera would cover maybe a quarter of it and its likely we might not get him on tape anyways.
 
Two words:

Net Launcher.

It might not help you catch whoever it is, but you'd get a net launcher!
 
Here's my advice. Randomly plant mines in your yard. Make shure there's a sign up though, otherwise you could get sued.
 
Get a nice big dog and make sure he barks alot when someone tries to get on your property.
 
we have a nice medium sized dog that usually barks when people dont even come on our property, but either he didn't hear the guy or we didn't hear the dog barking.
 
set up motion detectors in your yard, ones that are triggered by significant movement near the house

try setting them to trigger lights or an alarm
 
we live a little far out from the main part of city so police don't drive by here unless they get a call. As for motion detectors, we were thinkin about it, but my dog is always outside running around and late at night deer always come by so having an alarm would just be a hassle, we'll probably put a motion sensored light out tho.
 
a few lights should it it anyway... i dont think he/she will come anywhere near the house if its well lit
 
I'd stake out.

You may lose the next month of your life due to lack of sleep, etc. But it would be worth it.


Ok, maybe not, but it would be fun.
 
We had this happen to our mailbox 3 times.. we ended up getting a steel, self-locking mailbox, problem solved :) Of course, this doesn't help you, but.. eh
 
silly americans and your huge 'mailboxes' out in the open. when will you learn that a small slot in the door is the only way to go ;)
 
Automated turrets= less dogs( less shi* on carpet) + less deer + less vandalisation
 
I suggest just putting a sign up saying vandels will be shot and then prosecuted.... :D

I sugget setting up a video cammera that starts recording when it detects movement. But those could be expensive....


I really don't know what a good plan could be for this to be honest.
 
Run electricity through your mailbox (turn it on at night only).

Electrically charged mailbox + kid + pipebomb + dark = electrecuted kid with his arms blow off.
 
or you could say "trespassers will be prostituted" anyways, those x-10 people sell cameras don't they? you could set up a couple of those.

either that, or just accept that bigfoot wears boots and doesn't like the cut or your jib.
 
I suppose you needt to weigh the expense ofa night camera against the expense of the vandalism. I mean, in hind sight buying one before the window got broken would have been worth it.
 
I think motion sensors are your best bet, but you could hook the up to a visual aid like a light instead of an alarm. Like the bat-signal!
That way, if you dog keeps setting it off, It won't keep you awake or annoy anyone.

Anyway I vote for motion sesnored lights.
 
Just get your normal alarm motion tracker, and set it up outside your house point at the area where things normally get vandalized. You might run the risk of setting it off once or twice with people who are just walking past but if you arm it late who's going to be taken a stroll at that time of the night?

lol, good one.... yea i have vandals on my street too....we just got new mailbox 2 weeks ago...they killed it....then in the summer they killed 2 of our trees and hit the mailbox and its crazy....scuff up the neighbors yards

Seriously, I would knock 'em out cold if I found out who they were! Nothing pisses me off more than moronic destruction with no purpose...
 
Put rakes on your lawn.....it works in cartoons......
 
set traps in trees and in the ground that have spikes that come around and stab the trespasser if they hit the trip line

dig a HUUUUGE hole

lay wood vertical in hole

place sod grass over hole upon wood parts

then u wake up the next morning to find a 11 year old kid with ADHD in your hole, then u can shoot him
 
I'm lucky, because most of the people on my street are old. Our house was egged once about six years ago, but we hunted them down and killed them. The best part? Nobody found the bodies.
 
i'll just set up a fox hole covered in brush, shoot the guy when he shows up next, cover him in lime and throw him in the fox hole and cover it up. Problem solved.
 
Motion sensored lights and have the town put a street light near your mail box also leave a light on at night in your house most houses are attacked because it looks as if everyone is asleep but if you appear to up and look like a night shift worker they will most likly stay away.

Its easy for vandals to look down the road and see your house all looks dark and say to themselves good everyone looks asleep but if they think your up they will find someone else to play with.

If you still keep getting attacked then you no its personal.

Last things to check are what days do these events take place on if its just weekends or every monday ect is there a pattern to the attacks so start jogging down some info so you can plane your stratergy, it wont stop most likly till he is caught.
