Somethin loaded in Steam

I wanna know what got loaded in Steam for me today... I saw the other guy's thread about HL2 preloading or whatever and that's not what this is.. BUT

half-life engine.gcf was d/led for me today.... wtf is that? i checked the half-life release notes and it didn't say anything...

its just the half life 1 engine code...i think...too bad u didnt get wat i got witch is some thing that ill open with GCFscape...im gonna open the half-life2 1.gcf now...il tell u wats in it in a sec.

Yeh, it's just an update for the Half-Life engine. It's what's listed under "All Games" on the Steam news page.

Not that I believe this, but, if you claim it to be true, why not provide us with some proof? Screens of the open GCFs, perhaps.

I'm still a little confused by this - it was updated or actually completely downloaded? Surely it must have been only updated? In that case didn't you realise it was there before?

If you went to play CS or anyother offical valve MOD it will download this because it is the core element of half life.

Also if you played any other 3rd party MODS you will also download this because you need this to play the 3rd party MOD.

So in fact, what ur trying to say is that it would be there regardless of whether u have any mods or in fact anything extra installed. It is in fact the 'half life engine' - er, yeah, that thing thats kinda important to play *anything* hehe
If you managed to have steam and not that file, I worry for you ... ok, so you could play Codename Gordon. That's it, no?
