in console first type

"hopwire_vortex 1"

then

"give weapon_hopwire"

now throw it and then press attack again to activate it. It is preferable to do it in an area with lots of physics objects, I also suggest you stand back lest you wish to be crushed into singularity.

Just tried it. That's pretty sweet :D Cool.

It's like a 'black hole bomb'.

ooo purty. And it seems that after using it, "give weapon_hopwire" no longer works and you have to reload to a point before it was used...

Wow, that's awesome. I noticed that some of the commands relating to it are about striders. Maybe they're a (very) early incarnation of the strider buster? Whatever it is it's really cool. Now, there must be a way to increase throw distance :p

could be the strider buster although in the sdk they have a propstickybomb which sticks to stuff and has a comment that it is a test entity for physcannon ammo

It's like that vortex that kills the first combine you almost fight on the first bridge.

Can someone record this and shove it on youtube for me? I ain't got Ep 1 installed :D

Nice find iv been playing around with the cmd and its some crazy shit.

Cool. Too bad you can only use it once though.

When I first used it Alyx died and was sucked into it.

Maybe that's because the visual effect is the same as that of the strider cannon.

impulse 101 gives you 5 more unless the code in the sdk is outdated (noticed it while I been merging code and havent had a chance to test it because there is so much code to merge :( ), and the strider console commands are for how close the ball has to be to a strider when it does its thing to affect it.

This is awesome, if i remember correctly from the stolen build there was a weapon called the hopwire which was taken out, it was like these weird balls that stuck to walls with strings attached (that did nothing). This is actually works though!

It even kills striders! Does anyone know whether it works on choppers/gunships/dropships?

Woah, that looks like it could have been used to trip striders or something...I still feel they removed too much cool content instead of working it into the game somewhere...

You can spawn one with
give npc_grenade_hopwire
But I can't find any way to trigger one created like this.

Oh, and it can't kill choppers or gunships (has no effect on choppers, makes ragdoll copies of gunships)

Saw it on Joystiq myself. :)

Thank ya, Romeo, great post. I'll give this a go ASAP.

To get as many as you want, you can add the following commands after hopwire_vortex and weapon_hopwire:
sv_cheats 1
sk_max_hopwire 100
impulse 101 (repeat this last one as necessary)

Coolest weapon ever. Why does Valve always have to remove the cool shit?:hmph:

lawl look at all the thread views from being on Joystiq and Digg.

Kool find, I wonder what the guys at Valve must be thinking about this?
