Had the card for 3 months, and just tonight, for no reason what-so-ever its just heating up. I mean, even in 2d mode in just plain old Windows all these artifacts are popping up and then things start going berserk. I opened up my temperature readings in Nvidia Display and my GPU core is at 78c right now and i've only got the resolution at 640x480 :S.

What in the heck is going on?

My best guess would be your power supply.

Power supply is fine, bought a 400w for another card before i got this one

Fan is spinning, yes.

Already updated my drivers.

Also, after i posted this i cleaned my card (there was a thick layer of dust on the grate above the fan) but now whenever i plug it into the graphics card port rather then the standard VGA one, my monitor goes black and the little green monitor light flashes. Ran into this problem a few months ago but i can't remember how in the heck i fixed it.

Take a look at the official tech support thing at Nvidia if there's nothing there try emailing them. I had a problem with my 9800PRO and had to get it RMA'd

Check the pressure of the heatsink down on the gpu core by pressing it down, see if there's any leeway.

I can't even turn on my computer now. And this was straight after i installed the 71.84 betas from Nzone.com

I try to start it up in safe mode and everytime it gets to a file called Mup.sys it freezes. God damn this is the worst luck i've had with my computer in a long time, all in one night too.

I had a problem with a 6800gt that i couldn't start up my computer with. It was faulty memory, so i RMA'd it.

How long did you have it for? And did it happen suddenly? or over time?

It happened all of a sudden, after about 2-3 weeks of running fine- 12500 in 3dmark03, then without warning- phut.

holydeadpenguins, where are these 76.xx drivers? I cant find them. The latest i can find is 71.89.

Your problem is that you haven't yet sent your 6800GT to me.

That should remedy it.

Ok update time

Sent the computer into the shop after fixing the Mup.sys problem myself. The place i sent it to sent it back to me today and said they reinstalled Windows Xp and my graphics card and everything's working fine.

So i take it home and plug everything in. Plug the monitor into my graphics card port and wouldn't you know it, it doesnt work, surprise surprise. So I figure its gotta be something wrong with my monitor. But the thing is, if it was something wrong with my monitor why is it that it can work perfectly fine when plugged into my Onboard VGA card but not my graphics card?

They said the card worked fine so i figure the card is out of the question or they're lying. Or is it really the monitor? What the **** is going on?

so when you remove gfx and use onboard gfx , everthing works ?
if it works then the shop lies !

yeah, they must be fibbin ya Sparta. Lay the smack down man- ive had troubles with my vendor- you gotta show them who's boss. Flop out the big dog and lay it on em.

...ahem.
