i have a prob i think, when i am in game i only get from 20-50 fps
i play in 800x600 all settings on medium

all other things on my gfx is off!!

my spec is

2200+ xp
6800GT
1 gb DDR

is this normal?

i use the newest drivers from Nvidia

No it is not normal, you should be getting at least 70fps on high settings.

I've been having the exact same problem. 3GHz CPU, 9700 Pro, 1024 MB of RAM, and I'm getting 20-30FPS no matter what I do to the graphics settings. Thing is, the beta had me playing in the 80-90 range. I don't know what's happened.

this is frickin shady man. They Valve should have tested this during the beta TEST!!!!! They could have tested one of the heavier physics levels rather that the optimizd DUST. BTW, how are you guys seeing the number of fps that your getting?

I was playing around with res's and shit.. and it just made it worse. .. I'm not overly happy with my fps but its playable... 40 - 60 (I dont seem to get much over 60.. vsync is off and max_fps is set at 100)

Good PC with shit FPS.. ala me too and many more.

Maybe CS:S is not optimized for certain cards/drivers certain ahrdware types?

If this is a widespread problem. Maybe posting all your system specs would help resolve it. I have no problems.

According to fallout hl2 site aload more peeps got probs too.

My rother has a xp2200, 512mb, gf4 ti4200 and runs better than me.
He loads in faster than my friend who has same system than me but a sata drive and 9800xt.

Its totally ****ed up, did they even take a time out to optimize CS:S for diffrent types of hardware etc?

Seconded, I did that when I was getting 10-30 FPS on low details. After optimising I got 25-50 on high! And that's on a GF4 Ti 4200!

Also for you who don't like defragment waits. I found a excellent defragmenting tool. Perfect disk takes only a couple hours and does a very good job on my disk try it out. Link.
