I never had this error before. Its a map for Counter-Strike.
Im guess that this:
"added 17 additional animating textures.
Error: File read failure"
is the problem, but i never seen that before... someone knows?

Your wad.cfg is in the wrong directory.

There is a wad.cfg file in the zhlt folder, here's my wad.cfg if you need it. Just put it in the same folder that your hlcsg.exe is in. Which should be where all of your compile programs are.
 
think they binked your problem right there.

Also, you may know this already but you're at your maximum wad usage. If you add another you'll get a host of inexplicable errors. It doesn't seem like you are using that many textures for your map on the whole, you may want to splice the ones you want in to your own wad with wally and just embed it with nemesis' batch compiler. That would give you more flexibility with custom wad usage as well.
 
"File read Failure"! arggh

Hey guys, My problem is similar to his, but my wad.cfg file is in the same folder as my other zoners half life tools. You should know that this map is for CS: CZ instead of Source but i'm still using batch compiler so the errors should be the same. When I try to run the map in game, on my own computer, I get the "File read Failure" error message so when I try to run it on my friend's server, obviously it crashes the server as well. Can anybody help me? I will continue to attempt fixing it and if i find the problem before someone posts, i'll post the solution and save youse guys the trouble. Here's what i get when i compile it:

Just one thing I notice:

256x256 or so was the largest size HL1 could safely use.

Beyond that, I have no idea. It's a weird error. Check any of the sprites, models, sounds, and texture packs you've used for corruption (meaning, back up the map and then create a version without them). Run a Check-For-Problems (Alt-P) in Hammer. Select everything (Edit >> Select All) and try copying it into a fresh map file, then recompile.
 
Not quite fixed...

Ok, I found part of the problem. I have many of my compiler config files on my external hard drive which for some reason recently changed it's name from E: to F: . So I had to reset all the texture and game config files to the correct directory. Now, it gives me no error message at all but when i try to run the map in game, it gets 2 blocks of loading complete and shuts down completely. CZ closes altogether. I wish it would thow me a bone eh? Now i'm stumped fellas. And i don't know how to change my 'logo' texture so that it's small enough...Can anyone help?

Thanks fellas

Thanks for telling me i had to adjust the size of my 'logo' texture; i just did that with my photoshop prog. Now my map runs on my computer again, i just have to get it to run on my friend's server. Thanks for the help so far.
 
Crashing for seemingly no reason is really a worse problem :p

Now you're looking at a variety of possible causes, ranging from simple broken entities, bad entity properties, misaligned brushes, corrupt WADs/sounds/sprites... Ick.
