LOl.

sonic team's

Phantasy Star Online

Names of Levels:

Forest 1, 2
Cave 1, 2, 3
Mine 1, 2
Ruins 1, 2, 3

Mario Kart had better names. -____-

DONUT HILLS FTL. God I hated those levels...and the Ice Palace ones. D:

but... I love Pokemon

:)

Just because they use names that kids would like, doesn't mean it's only for kids.

For example, I like Disney/Pixar movies. Some parts are geared for children, and some are geared for adults, and everything in between.

I'm just saying, they know their target audience, just like SEGA/Nintendo do, and naming Pokeman something that uses huge words that kids can't pronounce or haven't seen before probably wouldn't be a great idea.

The exception to this is Ratatoullie, which I'm not sure I'm even pronouncing correctly. lol

POKEMON ROCKS! Well, it did. After Ruby/Sapphire I lose faith in the series. :(

Magicarp, dodge his splash attack! Nice work Magicarp now counterattack with your own splash attack!

Use hyperbeam Magicarp! (What? What the **** you mean you can't use hyperbeam?). Use splash attack Magicarp!

You call that a splash? Show him what a real splash attack looks like Magicarp.

Clever level names like those HL had (e.g. surface tension) would indeed be wasted on the majority of Sonic's main audience.

lol. Yup.

HL2: root canal (spelled it kanal?)

whatever.

point is:

Root Canal Zone
Insertion Zone

lol

Grassy Hill could be:

Grassy Knoll

Isn't that the grassy mound of dirt that shot Kennedy?

Sonic ****s Tails Zone.

I'm currently making my way through Diamond for DS right now, and having an absolute blast, mind you. I think Pokemon is actually a franchise with some staying power - they found a winning formula that I'm actually rather comfortable with. They are more comfort games than anything, something to fall back to for some sure fire addictive gaming.

What gave you the first clue?

Was it the 25 video games or the two theater movies or the cartoon TV series/s.. the cereal the light switch covers? bed sheets ? :P

I'm just playing

I hope that didn't sound like a dick, so I put more smileys

:)

I don't think it's ever going away.

Transformers came out like 24 years ago, and I was the biggest fan. (Soundwave FTW.)

It will may never be huge like it was back then. It was like Pokeman back then. And now, after all this time - another movie just came out.

24 years from now:

Pokeman with CGI so real, you get physically sick. (Either from pseudo-motion sickness/nausea or from the over-cuteness, I can't predict clearly.)

Honestly, for a while I thought it might just be a fad that died out like pogs or virtual pets. But alas, Pokemon was just too cool to die out - it had too many outlets and the backing of Nintendo :D.

It's crazy that Pikachu has become as much a sign of Nintendo as Mario in just a few short years. It is true that the popularity of certain Pokemon products has died down, such as the cards and toys.. either that or I've outgrown them all (when I was younger I collected the cards).

Ahh and I just got back from seeing the Transformers movie for a second time last night, really a great time wasting summer movie if I do say so myself.

I think more than anything I was referring to how popular the games have remained without having changed their core gameplay in years. They are still some of the best selling games on ANY platform. I guess if innovation sold games the best selling franchises wouldn't be; Madden, Pokemon, Soul Calibur, Takken, Tom Clancy games. Which seem to rehash old gameplay with new graphics or characters over and over. At least the Mario and Metal Gear franchises seem to have moved on, finally.

I don't recall "Night Casino Zone." I ****ing love Casino Night Zone, though. Also, "Casino Paradise Zone," not Parade. :) Everything after Sonic 2 was cocks anyway.

Yeah, you're the biggest fan of an uncharismatic bore.

Actually, after having looked it up I appear to have been wrong. D:
I don't know where I got Night Casino Zone from, there is a Carnival Night Zone though.

Also, "Casino Paradise Zone," not Parade. :)
Damn you're right again. I appear to suck at remembering Casino zones D:

Blasphemy! Sonic 3 & Knuckles was the best Sonic game(s) ever! Marble Garden, Lava Rief Zone's boss, Hidden Palace, Sky Santuary, Death Egg and Doomsday! Plus the insta-shield, using Knuckles and Tails and using the three shields. Plus Super Tails! SUPER-****ING-MILES-TAILS-PROWER!

Yeah, you're the biggest fan of an uncharismatic bore.

My robot could beat your robot.

I don't know what they have done with Soundwave since I used to play with the toy over 20 years ago, but when I was a kid, he was definitely the coolest one. He had the various mini-transformer cassette tape Decepticons that ejected, the coolest voice.

I also liked the whimpering and rebellious Starscream and the titanic Metroplex, among others.

What is your favorite?

Sonic 3 was good apart from the look of the console with two catridges stacked. o_0

Sonic 3 and Knuckles was... err, kind of the world's first episodic game or something? I'm not much of a fan of the later part though. Sonic 3 is a great game, but Sonic & Knuckles was the game where their imagination truely started to run dry.

Dull Mushroom zone? Wing Fortress remake zone? 'Oh-shit we've finally scraped the barrel and made the Sand and Lava zones'? Ancient Ruins level? Nah we've done that... so what about ancient ruins IN THE AIR! Genius! Let's throw in remake bosses from the first two games in case people don't remember that they're playing the same crap as before! Thank god for the last two zones. Or not if you're playing as Knuckles, though hell knows why you would anyway. Even the upsidey-down intelligence of the Death Egg Zone isn't 100% original. Jarvis Cocker should have sued either SEGA or me when I started singing 'Common People' along to the background music.

And Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the very, very easy way to play both games anyway. You suck if you don't have 99 lives by the end of Launch Base.

You can say that about Sonic 3 too.
Standard opening foresty level *check*
Under-water level *check*
Ancient ruins level *check*
Casino Night Zone with the gambling aspect removed *check*
Besides, there was a desert zone planed for Sonic 2 aswell IIRC and you can hardly called the idea of a zone with lots of snow and ice very original thinking.

I liked they way they referenced Wing Fortress' boss without really using it as a boss. But what's wrong with using old bosses (despite the fact that they became incredibly easy to beat with Sonic's new jumping height and insta-shield) when they weren't even used as bosses of any stage, just little mid-level challanges.

Thank god for the last two zones. Or not if you're playing as Knuckles, though hell knows why you would anyway.
Knuckles rocks! ;(
And how can you not love Sky Santuary?

Strange how almost every level in Sonic 3 has water but none in S&K has any.

The music on the Death Egg Zone is ****ing METAL. I've learnt it on guitar, along with the Green Hill tune for Sonic 1 :D

See, I never cared about Knuckles, so Sonic and Knuckles is just eh to me. And Sonic 3 just seemed like...I don't know, the magic was gone for me after the second one. It wasn't a bad game by any means, it was actually a good game, but it didn't impress me the way Sonic 2 had. So it's just...eh.

I will retract my former statement though because somehow I forgot about Sonic CD, which was not cocks. Now I must go listen to Sonic Boom once I finish posting this.

My robot could beat your robot.

What is your favorite?
UNICRON.

Nothing beats MY robot. Well, only one thing beats my robot.

I'm just joshing you anyway; that was a line from the movie. The Constructicons say, "Wait, the Constructicons form Devastator, the most powerful robot! WE should rule!"
Soundwave: "Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior."
Bone Crusher: "Who're you calling inferior?!"
Hook: "Nobody would follow an uncharismatic bore like you!"

Soundwave's cool, but I don't have much love for him. You know who I love? Rumble. Rumble was the best, with that New Yorker accent and his ground-pound arms. Best one of the cassettes.

Sonic 2 was my favorite....and the music was badass....I made my own lyrics to Hill Top Zone. I felt like a badass when I first did it, now I feel like I was going to be a killer...

"Crooked cop..crooked cop..crooked cop..crooked cop..pull out my .45, shot him in the head..now that..crooked cop is dead."

man, reading it is even worse!

SONIC 2 FTW! I want it on the VC console.

You can say that about Sonic 3 too.
True, but to me, Sonic & Knuckles was just a game too far. Plus, Sonic 3 was actually a substantial improvement over Sonic 2 because the game became much more of a platformer and you also wouldn't zoom through levels in under a minute. By the time you get to Sonic & Knuckles, there's really nothing being done for either the series or the genre itself. I wish I was wrong, but frankly, every Sonic game since Sonic & Knuckles has been even less inspiring...

Sonic CD was mentioned. Personally, i've played only a little of it. I actually found the time-travel feature very frustrating and most of the design seems a step back from Sonic 2. But then, SCD shouldn't feature in this thread since we're talking about Sonic Team :)

I really only love it because of the animated intro/ending. And the song. God, that song is so awesome. It's almost as good as the Sonic cartoon theme.

Why don't they ever have Sonic CD on those Sonic collections that they sell for €5? I'd buy one if they did. I want to play that game.

Kupo, I'm pretty sure that S3 and S&K were originally designed to be the one game (There are areas in S3 specifically for Knuckles) but there was too much data to be stored on the one cartrige without having to do some really expensive crap to the cartrige...or something. So the game was split in two, which is why there really isn't a difference in gameplay.

I also happened to play own S&K well before I played S3, so to me it seemed like the otherway around and S3 seemed like more of the same :P. It took me a while to get to like Carnival Night Zone and Marble Garden Zone and I still don't really like Hydrocity despite the fact that I normally like water levels.

Whilst I've always felt those levels are actually kind of bland in visual terms, they're really fun in that they're extremely fast paced, yet very expansive. Though Sonic Team should really be shot for that one area with the Barrel puzzle in Carnival Night. Getting stuck there is practically a gaming right of passage.

I hated that bit. I remember throwing my joypad across the room several times before I got that.

Ah well, sonic games are/were awesome fun. Still run them from time to time when I feel like firing up the old megadrive or mastersystem.
