Sony Anti-Piracy Patent

Okay so here is the question - If you bought a PS3 (and for argument sake lets say that’s the console you wanted) and you knew that all your games had this kind of restriction on them then would you still buy the PS3?

My answer by the way would by a 'no' I wouldn't want a console where I couldn't trade my games in or take them around to my friends house and play on them etc.

There's already a thread on this topic here.

But no, no one in their right mind would buy a PS3 if this were the case. Its interesting in the same way the Patriot Act is or Gleichschaltung was interesting: Boy, it sure does get things done, but at what cost for humanity???!!!

Trading games in i dont care about. Bringing them to my friends house that i do care. But if it comes down to that. Ill bring my whole ps3 to my friends house.

If it comes down to that... they've lost a potential sale.

There are already 3 threads on this friend.

Do you guys forget that if they release the PS3 in japan in about 1 and a half years that we wont get a PS3 in USA untill almost another year right? So thats about 2 and a half years from now. Then I can start saving for an xbox540.

- But hell no is my answer. I may consider getting a PS3 when they are 150$ and their best selling games are $20 which wont be untill like 2011 I guess. I'll probably be dead by then.

Sony will still be a success in Japan forever, however. Those Japanese and their Cameras and and video cameras.

From now on, I am pretty much staying with Xbox and Nintendo

Sony's best bet? continue to sell PS2 and PSP and go back to the drawing board, along with releasing some false hope in the form of hype.

The only way Sony would ever get me back as a fan would be to do something right again. Last time they did something right in my opinion, they made the PS1

I definetly would not since I have sold my games recently to a friend. I mean sure if you want to sell them the console and games and lose money on the deal, go for it.

AFAIK, the PS3 is expected to release early to mid 2006 (I think they said "Spring") with the US release following in a few months. The US release is expected to happen with time to spare for the 2006 holiday season. That's less than a year later... quite a big difference compared to your estimate of 2.5 years from now.

Also, what you said in some other thread (and are referring to here) about Microsoft being on a cycle of 3 years while Sony is on the standard 5 is a retarded extrapolation of Microsoft's two console releases. Why? Their first release was over a year behind the competition and let Sony take an early, commanding lead. Then, they try to counter their previously slow launch by launching a year earlier than the competition and attempting to give Sony a taste of their own medicine. That is still sticking to the standard ~5 year console life rule... if you don't forget to figure in the late release of the Xbox and the pre-emptive strike of the 360. Microsoft doesn't want to release new hardware every 3 years. That's suicidal considering the amount of money they lose on hardware, the way it would fracture the market, how confusing it would be for the average consumer, and the required marketing blitz to launch a new console. Plus, by the end of three years, the current-gen consoles are usually maturing graphically as the developers learn to work with them... making the graphical upgrade seem less obvious/appealing.

So, I have no idea where you get your information...

They would be wasting Billions of dollars....plus it would suck.

You guys still believe a company that lies all the time? Gimmie a damn break they knew they weren't going to release it in 2005.
I use my brain.

There is no way in hell this thing is comming out in 2006. japan? doubt it. USA? no way! Lol my ass.

I don't belive it. Im thinking like 2007 Japan, winter 2007 in USA, but hey. You are right, I have no facts.

its' just the lots of bullshit.

"teh PS3 will support 6 controllers" Then it is
"the PS3 only supports 1 controller out of the box."

So which is it? Design change? fair enough

OK lets give sony the benefit of the doubt.

It will support 1080p! my PC monitor doesn't even support that high of resolution.
In all games?! well, i am not even considering a PS3 anymore then becuase I don't have a $5000 1080p HDT.V. And thats not interlaced so that shit is going to flicker like mad right?

Speaking at the Tokyo International Digital Conference yesterday, Ken Kutaragi boasted that the PS3 should be capable of running games at 120 fps.
120fps? doing what? Playing Roflcopter or playing 3D graphics. If you don't specify what its doing thats a useless fact. hell the PS1 could do 120 fps if it was manipulating simple graphics.

maybe they will do 120 Fps in menu screens, maybe that would kill any 1080p flicker? cuz i doubt they could run any graphic intensive games at 120fps. And who cares about the resolution on a title menu lol

dam! dont you see
They are stringing us along!

He does the backwards compatibility thing. These are the Sony strengths, so he reminds the audience that these are the goods that Microsoft can’t match.

O rly ? well Microsoft shot that down now xbox games will look even better on the 360-- while it took a sega dreamcast running Bleemcast to play PS1 games better. (anyone else had that?) Got sued or at least taken off the market by Sony.

PLease you drop a PS1 or PS2 processor in there too or what? adding more money to the PS3 cost? so you selling us all your old PS1 and/or PS2 processors again?

Then in order to cut costs they drop the protective case the Blu Ray discs came in. The reason they designed them with cases is becuase they NEED them. Was that before they started coating the discs in resin? which doubled the manufacturing cost of the disc anyway?

I don't think I will be able to afford one for 6 years from now anyway. That thing is rumored to come out costing close to $700 unless sony takes no profit on them and just hangs on for the long haul. I assume that rumored price includes a hardrive and whatever u need to play it.

And to answer your question about Microsoft releasing a new system in about 3-4 years. I don't think there is a doubt in anyone's mind that Microsoft will again release another system before sony releases a PS4. like i said looks like Sony likes to let their systems marinate for as long as possible. not a bad move for them. But years down the line, im sure an extremely insane powerful Xbox540 or whatever will release and Sony will definately stick with their PS3 for a long time, getting very stale

Meantime i have just seen 6 commercials for PS2 games in one one hour on T.V.

If I come into some money I'd take an xbox 360 right now. Tired of it all.
Im sorry.
Im done discussing consoles. Sorry about that. From now on I just want to talk about the games.
Hurray!

It's standard. Every console, out of the box, only supports one controller. You have to buy more to have more players. It can handle 7 wireless controllers (and, IIRC, USB ones at the same time)... if you have 7 wireless controllers.

What? You don't have a 1080p display? OH NO! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO!?!? Just run it at 1080i or 720p. Problem solved. Also, I can already play some games in 720p (1080p is just a higher resolution; it uses the same refresh rate)... and, FYI, it doesn't flicker. Did you really think the fancy, expensive, next-gen HDTVs would be pushed so hard if they were all flickery?

It was unveiled at E3 2005... in May.

Xbox games will just have a higher resolution and some anti-aliasing. Nothing else is different. As for Bleem, well, it's illegal... and would you want someone to sell an emulator for your games on your competitor's console? No. Don't blame Sony for getting pissed about that.

VirusType2 said:

Nope, emulation is done in software on the regular PS3 processor... as is the case with the Xbox 360 and the Revolution. What's the problem?

It is going to be around $400 (maybe less, I can't remember)... according to official statements. There was at least one whole thread about that.

Well, maybe after this one last correction... but only if you don't make-up a bunch of crap again.

Sorry i have edited a few things in my post, you must have quoted me already.

Make up a bunch of crap? you are right, lets let Sony do that.

Look at what you quoted right before the text of yours that I quoted (MAY 2005?!! 6 MONTHS LATE ALREADY!):

"Sony unveils PlayStation 3 (PS3) The first pictures, info, release date, and more on Sony's new PlayStation May 16 2005 - Sony today officially announced..."

You took that text and misinterpreted it. I'm still right. Quoting another non-related article (I looked up the quote of yours that I just specified) doesn't make that one change. You mistakenly read that as Sony saying (on May 16th 2005, I might add) that the PS3 was going to be released on May 16th 2005 (on the very same day in which it was first announced)... when, in fact, it is merely two mashed together sentences.

Now, as for the quote you want to divert me to instead:

"Sony Considers 2005 PS3 Release
A company rep hints at the possibility of a release..."

Pay close attention to those weak words... considers, hints, possibility. Sony considered a 2005 release, after Microsoft announced that it was going to release on November 22nd 2005... because that would have been the best case scenario. There was never a firm statement of a 2005 release. They considered it... but they were too far behind schedule. So, they pushed it back. Currently, according to Sony chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer, Sony plans to launch the PlayStation 3 in the spring of 2006. I think that's a little bit more reliable than your random guesses of late 2007 or even 2008.

VirusType2 said:

So far, I'd bet you've spread more misinformation than all three companies combined.

The point is, they string you along. Wait wait wait. they mislead people to think its coming sooner than it is.

OK so you quote them a Japan release of spring 2006, with a US release following a few months later.

Let's see if they hold their word.

You mean sentimental right?

Cause that sentence still makes sense [albiet sarcastic] as sedimental.

Haha! Yeah, I hate when Microsoft does that!

"Look at all of the features the next version of XXXX will have! Oh wait, we need to remove most of them because we are already 1.5 years behind in our development cycle."

So then they try and make up for it and release a product way too early and its buggier than Jonestown the day after! (See the colossal sh1tball that is Visual Studio 2005).

Ugh. Expensive, buggy and lacking features--that's a MS product for you. Hope the 360 doesn't follow this model. :(

The same could be said for all the systems.

Im worried about reliablity also

I'm on my 3rd dreamcast, 3rd Playstation 2, and 2nd Xbox-no problems with my Gamecube so far
playstation 1? that was fun flipping it upside-down. lol

WTF? You need to watch where you are swinging that 6 hour erection that you get! Either that or do a better job cleaning-up the mess from the 15 powerful ejaculates you shoot out everyday! Go easy on your systems...try telling them they look pretty first before you stick it in (the disc, that is :upstare: ).
