Unfortunately, Sony did not announce a price point for the system so how much the unit will cost is still somewhat of a mystery.

May 11, 2004 - Amidst the few surprises at today's Sony Computer Entertainment conference this morning, a short (and we mean short) blip as part of the PSP presentation unveiled what looks to be a new chapter in the Metal Gear franchise.

In the clip, a PS2-quality model of Snake was seen running around in, also surprisingly, a brightly-lit urban warehouse battlefield. He sneaks up on an enemy, delivers a roundhouse kick ... and then, the trailer was over.

Although very, very little can be assumed from two quick video shots, we're hoping and a little bit assuming that this could be the long-awaited multiplayer edition of the series mentioned by series creator Hideo Kojima a while back. The bright areas didn't exactly match previous series entries, and the wide-open stage was also askew from series standards. Assumptions at first were that this online, multiplayer version of the game would come to networked consoles, but it could be that the team instead have been planning planning on the networking capabilities of the PSP system. With both infrared and 802.11b wireless standards, the handheld encourages this kind of multiplayer interaction, and many of the games and demos on the video highlighted this.

There was no indication of whether the presentation was made of planned games or just character and environment demos was not spoken at the show, but we'll be hounding down Konami for word on if the Metal Gear Solid PSP demo wil indeed end up a full-fledged game. Look for more word soon. Also, check out the E3 Conference Video of this short demo (and we're not kidding when we say short) of MGS PSP in just a few minutes on IGN PSP.

...see what i mean?

yeah its pretty amazing, did yall see the demo reel of the games coming for it? it looks waaaaaaay better than the graphics of the nintendo ds. i dont see why people dont see that.

Metal.........Gear........PSP...........*dies*

Does anyone know where I can find video's of the various console maker's press conferences? Particularly the Sony press conference.

Wow, that looks cool! And jeebus! look at the ammount of features it has!

I'm sorry, but can you still call that thing portable? It makes the N-Gage look tiny...

And like I said in the other thread, what about power usage? It pretty much determines whether a portable will be succesful or not.

Come on, that's ridiculous, no one is gonna drag an extra battery around, the thing should be able to rely on what it carries on board, which is then clearly not enough. Why not strap a car battery on your back, maybe it'll look hip?

Anyway, it looks like a good console, lots of features but as you can see, I worry about the power usage. There's no point in letting the machine play a movie if the thing gives you a black screen half-way through the movie unless you hook up to an external power source, which is just stupid.
It kinda defeats the purpose of being mobile... :dozey:

But we'll see, maybe it'll turn out not to be a major power drainer.

Yup, ive been following this baby for AGES! :D

Sorry to burst your bubble, but people have been saying MSG on the psp is some kind of card game, not that much stealth in it ;( (I hope not ;))

I'm stuck, I dont know what to get...a 9800pro or save up and wait for the PSP :(

depends what card u have now. but I have a 9600 SE and Im savin for the PSP no doubt.

the psp will come sometime in early 2005, youll have more than enough time to save ;) (i hope lol).

and PvtRyan you can easily watch a movie on one full battery. play 4-7 hours of a game on one full battery, and play 10 hours of music on one battery. and with the external battery i wouldnt be surprized if you could get 20 hours out of everything. and its not as big as you say. its smaller than the DS. if your in the car then get a inverter and watch tons of movies while charging ;)

i wouldn't out to much or any stock in the PSP til we actually see games running on it... anything can play video... remember what that EA guy said? they're showing games running on an EMULATOR w/ the GIVEN SPECS (which could be anything, coming from sony) of the PSP... just wait. i haven't trusted sony since PS2.... remember the ball room "demo" for the unvieling of PS2? and they claimed that the PS2 could push 120,000,000 polys when it can only push 20,000,000 polys.... and then they say PSP can push 15,000,000 polys?!?!? hell. no. i have to actually see a game running on PSP hardware, at least the DS can run software as of now.... and batterylife is going to be all of 20 minutes of the PSP if it can do anything sony claims it can... my money is on the DS... sure, if i believed sony i'd jump on teh PSP bandwagon.... but sadly(and sony's fault, mind you)... i do not
