Looks like Sony may be one of the first consoles to use Blu-Ray :) They are soo much bigger than DVDs... Single Layer can hold 25GB and a dual layer can hold 50GB....

Since it's known that GTA:San Andreas is using a Dual Layer DVD which is 9 gigs, it's safe to assume that you can fit a little less than 3 of GTA:San Andreas' onto one single layer, and almost 6 onto a dual layer... Wow let's hope that game developers use that space efficiently and not use it stupidly like not compressing anything, well unless they need a speed boost :) :imu:

Oh and expect a lot of Playstation3 details March 31st, 2005 and it will be playable at next year's E3  Very cool stuff

I like the fact that Blu-Ray discs are in cases like MDs. No more scratched discs ever.

Heh

Actually the only problem is that Blu-Ray discs aren't considered an industry standard yet... Let's hope that Sony can do to Blu-Ray by how it helped DVDs for games :)

well with 12 to 13 major industry leaders backing including Dell which will be putting them in computers and 2 major Film Studios and Sonys own movie division i think it becoming the next big industry standard is quite possible.

not anymore, a company has made a new plastic faced bottom, it was demonstrated aswell. the guy took a sharpie marker and drew a line on the plastic and the ink didn't stick. it just rolled right off the disc and remained clean.

Cartridges ruled! I used to like forcefully shoving the old cartridges in.

Ahh, the good old SNES

Looks nice

I like the gamecube slightly more, but my PS2 is great just because i'll be able to play MGS3.

If this new cartridge is being used though, does this mean my PS2 games won't be forwards-compatible?

i think it should be b/c the ps3 is most likely going to have a dvd drive, and if they have a dvd drive there shouldn't be any reason for it not to be compatible with your ps2 games

Yeah, the PS3 is supposed to be able to play DVDs, so there should be no reason why it isn't backwards compatible.

If the PS2 can play dvds then the PS3 will look shit if it cant ;)

maby 2 drives, one for the blue-ray thingy and one for the dvd's etc so it can play the ps1 and 2 games

Well, I guess that's kinda good and bad. Two drives means more versatility, but also higher cost.

Most probably. PC Gamer stated in an article about the unreal 3 engine that we should expect a "monstrous leap in hard drive space requirements" - so this new medium seems like the way forward for pc games too. I wonder when we'll reach multiple dvd disks in games :naughty:

The prices for consoles always start out on the expensive side ($200 - $300), but then they become more reasonable.

Daym
Ill probly get one of those, that is.. if the gmaes are good

LOL N-GAGE SUX!

from what i read in an artcle way back when i heard that its will only be backwards compatable for ps2 games. but im not sure if thats true or if it was that they are still doing that. SO DONT QUOTE ME
