Seriously are we not living in the time when hard drive space is the cheapest thing around? What is it at now? 50 cents per gig?

Er, well, I guess that is something I guess. It means almost nothing, both to me and to most consumers though.

Not for the ELITE HDD--separately that thing is going to cost $179.99 for a 120 GB HDD!!! Crazy!!! I just got a 500 GB HDD for my PC and it was only $139.99!!!

Exactly. Am I really supposed to believe consoles are cheaper than buying a gaming PC? I bought a new 120GB just last month for $59.99. Its not like they aren't using the same EXACT hard drive technology in their consoles!

It's the labor of...hooking the new one up?

I dunno.

Well I'll be damned if following up a competitor's product announcement with your own inferior product isn't going to garner you market-wide acclaim.

They haven't even announced they plan to release it, and if they do it will probably replace one of the current models rather than be a new SKU. This isn't that big of a deal. The PS3 HDD can be upgraded anyway, you don't have to pay $180 for a proprietary HDD ... god I hate MS.

Note to the dumb: patent was filed March 2, a few weeks before the "Elite" was announced.

Seriously, 179.99 for one ****ing component. That is beyond ass raping rip off and into the league of retarded drooling circle jerk **** up.

Wait... the 80GB PS3 is the works? In the works? How long does it take to put a different HDD in there?

I love how they parade extra hard drive space around like it's the next coming of Christ or something. Who really gives a flying fig. I have a 20 gig on my xbox and I have yet to use any of it for anything long term. Sure I download demos, but those last about half a day or three at most. And I don't even think about downloading movies from market place (have internet after all). For me, this whole extra hard drive space thing is a waste of time and money.

Read the article, they just filed for it.

btw AFAIK you can replace your PS3 hard drive without breaking warranty, yet you can't with a 360.

Media center.

With the PS3 it's different. A lot of games actually install in the background when you first boot them similar to a PC game. Also, the thing is capable of running Linux which if you take advantage of is 10 gigs gone right there. When Home comes out a lot of people will want to put a lot of HD content on their system to show off. Unlike 360 Arcade, the PlayStation Network has full games available to download from the store. I have my entire music collection on there.

60GB is enough, but it's not really overkill at all. For the 360 though I agree, I can't imagine what you could possibly do to fill up a 120GB HDD.

Where are they parading like it's the next coming of the Christ, as far as I can see they just filed a patent for a 80 gb drive.

I didn't mean to go off topic, but I was talking about the Xbox 360. If you're selling an arbitrary peripheral for 2/3 the cost of the system, I would say that they're over selling that product just a tad. As stated above, you can get a 500 gb hard drive now days for $150.00, which doesn't really add up when M$ tries to sell a 120 gb hard drive for $179.99

I bought a 250 gig for about $70 a couple weeks ago

I got a 320gig drive for $105 Canadian almost a year ago.

Indeed. But when you don't allow other external HDDs to enter the party, you force consumers into a sort of stranglehold. They are good at that though--just look at the OS market. :E

That's just it Sony and MS make a loss on their consoles and hence make everything else overpriced. The confusing part is the Ninendo Wii which is apparently making a profit per console, yet the extras are still expensive.

Because Nintendo makes a profit on everything... I mean Nintendo only does games and game hardware. They can't afford to loose money on anything, whereas Microsoft and Sony have billions of $$ coming from other departments.

120 gigs is a good size. 60 is alright. 20 is retarded small.
