Sorround sound

I bought a 5.1 sorround sound kit for my XBOX a few months back that I now want to put onto my PC. I have a few questions-

Whats a good sound card that supports 5.1 (do the 7.1 and 6.1 cards work with as well, and do they have optical output)

How should I position the speakers? The 5.1 DTS and 5.1 doloby digital arragements seem to be different.

Is it any good or whould I keep it on my XBOX?

I got an audigy 2 ZS in my system. I like all the options in the control panel but there is so much junk to install in the drivers that it wastes HD space. It also doesnt slow down games frame rates when you have the higher audio settings enabled. Of coarse the onboard audio in most motherboards is sufficient.
My soundcard supports 5.1 6.1 and 7.1
Currently I am running a 7.1 speaker system
