i am so sorry i have overposted. but i just heard this band and they sound great. they sound like indie rock, like incubus mixed with switchfoot.. are they famous enough for you all to recommend songs from them to me?

um yeah...

Spoonman, Rhinosaur, Outshined, Jesus Christ Pose, Rusty Cage, The day I tried to live, Fell on black days.

Black Hole Sun is the most famous track.

They broke up though, and Audioslave kinda formed from them.

no wonder they sound like audioslave, anyway, they sound better than audioslave..

Well Audioslave have also split up haven't they? Unless Chris Cornell is doing a small solo project for a while.

I really like Audioslave, but I have only heard 'Blackhole Sun' from Soundgarden, but it was fine song.

Audioslave are split. Rage are reformed, Chris is doing his own thing.

If you're going for a Soundgarden album, I'd have to swing for Superunknown.

Don't compare Soundgarden to those shitty bands.

Get these albums then go on from there - Badmotorfinger, Superunknown.

Or download these singles and if you like them get their albums - Black Hole Sun, Fell on Black Days, Pretty Noose, Somewhere, Outshined, Burden in my Hand.

You can probably listen to most of them on Youtube.

Related bands - Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains. You should also get Temple of the Dog's album as Chris Cornell wrote all the songs along with a few members of Pearl Jam in memory of the lead singer from Mother Love Bone (my avatar).

Rusty Cage is amazing.

Yeah, they're awesome. Get Superunknown and go from there.

yes, hl2.net has brought me on the path of nice rock music!! but, i will never forget what i started with, mainstream..hehe

<3 Superunknown.

EDIT: Also, they are (for the most part) classified as grunge, not indie rock. In fact, indie rock could be applied to any rock band that is signed under an independent label, so it's not really a genre as such.

STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT.

There is nothing wrong with liking ''mainstream'' music as it's just goddamn music. And besides, Soundgarden is as mainstream as it can get when it comes to grunge/alt.

Pick up a copy of Superunknown, get a nice pair of headphones, shut the lights off, and enjoy

Hell yes, one of my favorite bands.

They are much older than those bands you mentioned, they are not indie, but Grunge (as in, coming from the late 80's/early to mid 90's from Seattle). Their sound was more mainstream than Nirvana, harder than Pearl Jam, and softer than Alice in Chains.

Great songs by sound garden:
Black Hole Sun (Their most famous song)
Fell on Black Days
Rusty Cage
Spoonman

Bands with members from Soundgarden:
Temple of the Dog (with Chris Cornell)
Audioslave (also with Chris Cornell)
Chris Cornell (He writes his own music)

I feel like Soundgarden doesn't get the attention they deserve being grouped with so many bands during the 90's. They're a great, unique band. Oh yeah don't ever compare them with Incubus or Switchfoot again :|

Great songs:
Rusty Cage
Jesus Christ Pose
Superunknown
Black Hole Sun
Spoonman
Like Suicide(my favorite)
Pretty Noose

The album Superunknown is a great starting point.

Fully agree, Muse are as mainsteam as it gets too, and they ****ing epic. Sick of people sticking to sterotypical trends and classifying music in every aspect 'cant listen to that, even though it sounds good because its mainsteam/emo'.

I needs to stop.

Actually, I would like emo if it sounded good. Unfortunately it does not. Before I had ever even heard of the term emo I was starting to become nauseated with modern rock. I just hate the way emo's sing, its like they're all 15 and screaming.

Are you referring to actual, early 90's emo, or the ''emo'' that gets thrown around to bands on the radio in this day and age? Seriously recommend you check out the real stuff and stay away from the whiney crap of today. It's a damned shame such a good genre is so easily tossed about to shitty, manufactured bands like MCR.

Well I guess Soundgarden were pretty mainstream back in the 90's. Regardless, they were a fantastic band - Superunknown is one of my favourite albums of the 90's. I'm glad people are still getting into this band.

*Goes and puts on some Soundgarden*

uh, there was emo in the early 90's? I thought it was the latest iteration of nu-rock.

Yep, real emo came around aroundabout thenish or so, it's just like I've said, the term seems to be getting thrown around alot thesedays to any band with a whiney voice or a pair of tight trousers.

Try out some stuff by Fugazi, Rites of Spring, Indian Summer and, to an extent, the early At the Drive-In stuff, but moreso the first 3 as they were real big names for the emo scene back then.

Eh, listened to some of them. Definetley better than the shit we have nowadays, that was back when it was more indie I suppose. Still, not my type of music. Emo nowadays is too commercial, IMO, but this is definatley better.

And the drummer, who went on to play for Pearl Jam, and still does.

i like emo songs which have a harder voice, like BB. but any emo with a boyish voice, like My Chem Romance, Senses Fail ect. then it's FAIL

oh btw, My Chemical Romance = FAIL FAIL FAIL
