I bought a M-Audio Delta soundcard a little while ago for use with a MIDI setup I just bought. I use my computer to record music (via MIDI and a microphone) as well as gaming, and since I bought the card, I've been having trouble with a couple games.
First off, the card has no support for any type of surround sound. Then, I've been enountering an audio latency in Far Cry, and very annoying crackling and popping in BF1942.
The card is great for sound recording though. It has ASIO (technology that allows for very low latency audio monitoring - hardware monitoring vs software), and is very easy to use the the various audio recording software I use.
However, I would like something that will satisfy BOTH needs. With Doom3 just going gold, and HL2 to come soon (as well as wanting to play the games I already own), I'm going to want to use a surround sound setup, and I'm not going to want to have to screw around with sound settings so I can get everything right.
Does Creative (or any other manufacturers that support EAX hardware processing) have any soundcards that will be good for both applications? I was looking at the audigy series, but I didn't see that any of them support ASIO, which is a biggie for me.
Also, many of the more advanced Audigy cards are several hundred dollars. I got the M-Audio card for about $150 at Guitar Center, and it has all the interfaces I need (RCA in/out, MIDI in/out/thru, SPDIF in/out). I would like to stay in this price range, if possible.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
