'Twas only a matter of time.

Middleware solutions are becoming increasingly common as developers look to mitigate the costs of next-gen game creation. Epic Games' Unreal Engine (Gears of War, Turok) and Emergent's Gamebryo Element (The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) are a pair of popular engines currently being licensed out for use on the Xbox 360, but it looks like they're in for some new competition on the platform.

Today Valve Software announced that the Xbox 360 version of its Source engine is being offered to developers.
Source. (heh)

lol 'source' wahahahhaha what a joke. it will be nice that developers might be looking at finally using the source engine for games not created by valve.

Umm..giant.... what do you mean finally? It's been open to PC developers and been licensed by PC Developers a decent amount now.

You mean for creating games such as Sin: Emergence, Bloodlines, and Dark Messiah, which were not made by Valve.

Or did you mean games specifically for Xbox 360?

Isn't source like one of the more difficult engines to work with?
I don't think I've heard a comment like that about Source.

However UE3 and the Doom 3 engine are specifcally designed with other developers in mind.
