Valve have released an update for the Source engine today affecting Team Fortress 2, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-life 2: Deathmatch.
  • Dramatically improved the dynamic model loading system's memory usage, performance, and stability[br]
Reduced memory usage on systems running Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7[br]
Improved alt-tab handling under Windows Vista and Windows 7
These changes should provide a noticeable performance boost for many users with lower end hardware. Share your experience with us! Steam news.

Awesome! Now I can play with very high textures again.

Hmmmm!

They broke GMod on it's birthday. I think they planned it.

The old engine was crushed under the weight of excessive hats.

holy shit does that means those games will run faster?

I hope this actually works. I'll find out once I get my holidays!

in other news: hl2 maps are still fullbright.

Improved alt-tab?
Still not removing -sw -noborder.

doesn't "-sw" mean the game will use software rendering?

i think that "-windowed -noborder" is what Naph wanted to suggest

There's multiple commands for windowed mode. -sw and -windowed both work.
