Source Engine Version?

I was wondering if someone could ask a quick question for me, asuming you making a mod from scratch. Does it matter if the mod is for the standard game or Episode 2? Just wasn't sure if the engine was updated overall or the engine was updated for a specific stand alone game?

Each time a new episode comes up the SDK is updated with all the new fancy tech in the latest episodes so if you want to do a HL2 based mod you will download the episode 2 skd... I think.

Does it matter if the mod is for the standard game or Episode 2?

A mod using the Original Source Engine (circa Half-Life 2) will only require any game that comes with the Source SDK.

A mod using the latest version of the Source Engine aka Source 2007 aka Orange Box Edition will require a Orange Box game to run.

Source 2007 enables many features and looks nicer but has higher system requirements compared to the Original.

Both are available from the Source SDK located in the "Tools" tab in Steam.
