source games change my desktop resolution

I play half life 2 and epidose one at 2048x1536, and my desktop is set to 1024x768. When I quit or alt-tab out of these games the desktop resolution has changed to 2048x1536 and is stuck at this, until the computer is reset.

My computer specs are
Windows XP service pack 2
Athlon x2 4600
512mb x1900xtx
1.5gb ddr 400 ram

I have tried several different sets of graphics drivers and the problem occurs with all of them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

why on earth do you use that low of a resolution???

I don't think it is very common for people to be playing games at resolutions higher than their desktops because most people set their desktop to the maximum to begin with.
I would try updating to the latest DirectX.

Problem: Your game is changing your desktop to a higher resolution.

Solution: Keep your desktop at that resolution.

its ok if you have you game at lower resolution but not vice versa. if the problem is that your icons or text are 2 small, then you can change that easily.
