Source games dont work - large veriaty of errors

Every time I launch a source game another type of error occurs.
sometimes it shows me the popular Internal Drive error, after it's finished loading about 70% of the game. Other times it just shuts off the computer screen into some sort of sleep modes which requires me to do a reset, and other times the game freezes during loading, and I cant even Ctrl-Alt-delete it, I have to restart the computer! I've tried to uninstall the game and reinstall it, uninstall entire Steam, I went through almost the entire steam support center but most things just temporarily worked.

And here's the interesting part.
I downloaded Portal, and since it was hacked It didn't work through steam. And It didn't stuck or anything, worked perfectly.

My computer BTW is a lot better than the recommended requirements for the game.

I think he is saying that legit source games don't work while a pirated copy of portal does.

Well, when you download shit, you're bound to get a virus or two.
Yes, I'm blaming a virus for steam not working. Actually, I'm blaming the OP for sucking really really hard.

The only reason I downloaded Portal is because I wanted to see if a non steam version will work. And it did!!! I do plan to buy the Orange Box but I cant do that when I know it wont work. So get over your pirate paranoia and help me please
