So, now that we've seen what SOURCE can do, imagine what is in development at this moment!! It boggles the mind, don't you all think?

Source?

5 years old?!

SINCE WHEN!

That would mean HL-1 used source, pfft.

Actually, we haven't seen everything that the Source can do. I expect plenty of secrets to be packed with it, along with what MODders will do.

i doubt they are working on developing anything groundbreaking at the moment considering what draws near. they stated somewhere that source should last a good few years before anything new needs to be developed, and its completely believable. source wasnt made 5 years ago, they began working on it then, i think i heard it was just done in the last 2 years or so.

Source is a lot younger than that and it's always evolving...I'm quite sure that they've packed almost everything that's possible at this time into the engine and are able to add more as it becomes available...

Source isn't 5 years old, and even if it was, it's the baddest mother f'ing engine there is

*nods* yeah, I doubt source has reached it's full potential yet

Hmm...I asked Gabe about their development time...five years and all that...and he told me that the tech that went into Source, including the shader system used by Pixar, was implemented at the very beginning. He then proceeded to use a lot of techy-talk which I couldn't understand well. So it would seem that all the pieces were in place for the initial Source build when they started, and then they updated modeling, textures etc as time went on.

Speaking of Pixar, how long will it take for a Monsters Inc. or Toy Story mod to come out? /me wonders

Oh that would be so cool! Imagine recreating all the environs to huge scale for the characters and cel shading everything!

This is all in good humor, but isn't the DoomIII engine the one that does awesome plastic??? :cheese:

LOL

for lighting i would have to go with D3, as it seems to be all glossy-like, which is more reminiscent of the movies youre describing

lol. I bet there could be an awesome Toy Story mod for doom 3 since all of the characters are plastic o.0

Even better: If you can make characters out of water, then why not just make it a huge walking talking translucent plastic bundle?

I just had a cool idea for a mp mod for Half-Life 2. Since you can theoretically build characters out of water, it would be sweet if one team was fire and the other was water. I'm not really sure what sort of attacks or weapons would be implemented...dunno what fire would use against water...but it would still be cool.

Wonder-Twin powers activated!

Hehe, the funny thing to think about though is how long source will be used.

I mean, there are still popular games coming out now that use the Quake 3 engine. So I think we can safely say that source will be used for a long time to come.
