Since a while i get an error just after windows xp, newest updates, starts.

I get an error message:
Unable to load
c:\program files\steam\steamapps\*name*\source sdk base\bin\filesystem_steam.dll

and if i look in my Windows Taskmanager is see hl2.exe and SDKLauncher.exe running. Eventhougt my settings aren't set to start up SDK base after windows startup.

And after deleting Source SDK base and installing, i still get this error.
Weird :S

And i changed that filesystem_steam.dll for an other same file, from my HL2 folder. And that didn't work either. :(

Also reinstalled Source SDK and chekked my msconfig en startup folder in windows , and my steam settings. And none of them are set to start up after windows start up.

Therefore I ask You for help.
Please no post like:
1. Omfg, i have the same error. or
2. I had tha same error bud it stopped somehow after doing nothing...
or
3. omfg, that's not nize 4 u,
etc.

Thank You for your time, and hopefully i get this error stopping.

My computer shouldn't be the problem either,

After deinstalling Source SDK Base and reinstalling it,
the problem was gone.

So people having problem with this kind of dll failure i recomment reinstalling.

Thank You for [not] helping me. :)

I was having the same problem so selected "delete local content" on "Source SDK Base" (which leaves all the files in place???) and then installed again. Still same problem. Then I double clicked on "Source SDK Base" and it launches this weird test version of HL2 and suddenly a bunch more files appears in "Source SDK Base/bin", including the much-desired filesystem_steam.dll
So either
- re-installing
- Or running Source SDK Base
is the solution

PS. my mod works again, woo

Running Source SDK Base will not always work.
But yes, somethimes it works, but reinstalling always works :)

Hi,

thanks for the info about trying to use the sdk base and reinstallation, but it's not working at all for me. I must be about my 10th installation. So reinstallation doesn't always work :(

I've....
- completely uninstalled and reinstalled, in several combinations (sometimes all of the programs, sometimes just HL2 and source, sometimes DM and source etc.).
- replaced the filesystem_steam.dll file.
- deleted all the filesystem_steam.dll files
- deleted the client blob thing.
- added -engine ep1 to the source shortcut
- tried it in offline mode
- tried all the files directly rather than through the shortcuts
- updated java and checked drivers

And I'm still getting the error. Anyone got any idea why?

*edit*

Also I've mentioned the problem in the official valve/steam support area and I've not had a reply. It's been over a week and not even a peep to say they're looking at the problem, or that they'll get round to it :(
