I feel a little nitpicky pointing this out, but the single-player SKU was dropped when Sierra were shut down. It's still on the packages page though. :)

When was it said it was dropped?

I remember Gabe saying that when sierra got bought by VU, sierra intially thought of having sperate packages (SP, SP + MP, e.t.c.) - however with sierra been taken over by VU, the idea was dropped.

It's in some page of that info from valve thread.

I too can remember it being said, but by who and when is something I can't remember :/

Someone interested inwalking through a fifty-page thread ? :)

argh :hmph:
Munro is there a way to split that "Info from Valve only" thread into 2 smaller ones? or perhaps 3 smaller ones?

my reason? well quite frankly its hell trying to find info in that monsterous of a thread.. kinda like trying to find a needle in a haystack :x
perhaps spiltting into 3 smaller threads and locking the first 2 would make things much more easier and pleasant for pple searching for info.

Please Munro? :dork:

edit: just realized how off-topic this is.. i am sorry for hi-jacking this thread.. :(

Sierra was already owned by Vivendi, it wasn't taken over. There's nothing in the Info From Valve Thread I've reorganised most of it onto the main site.

It has been dropped. It was in the latest Q & A session with PlanetHalfLife. Vivendi may have still owned Sierra but I bet they did still have their own marketing people.

Either that or because Vivendi are having money troubles they wanna force everyone to spend at least $50 without the option of a value pack :p

Sorry, I misquoted.

Sierra was shut down by VU last month. It came in the news, let me get some proof...

and the important question:

Q: Back in September 2003, you were talking about releasing several different versions of the game. Such as a multiplayer-only version, and singleplayer-only version. Are these versions still planned?

A: Back when Sierra was still in business, they had plans for a value-priced edition that would have been a singleplayer only version. Once Sierra was shut down, they scrapped the plans for those versions and ended up with 2 versions: 1 "normal" version (includes both single and multiplayer) and one Collectors Edition (more on that below).

So its just the regular version and a possible Collectors Edition.

I don't get then why people are goin on about HL2 not having bundled multiplayer then heh.

Damn, I need to update the page then :)

No one tells me these things ;(

Because there was going to be a singleplayer only package.

Search...

Search...

search only takes u so far when it comes to that thread.
i have used the search button in the past hoping to find what i was looking for from that thread... but the search didn't provide revelant posts.

of course a thread as big as that one, u can imagine how tough it is even with a search button to find some particular pieces of info.

anyway.. i am sorry for bringing this issue up in this thread.
perhaps if there was a "refine search" button available, it would be a bit more helpful within certain areas and/or threads which may be particularly large.
