Shot this from my house. I tried to catch as much of it in the air as i could before it just became a point of light. After that i went inside and filmed the tv. If you watch till the end you can see the external tank separate from Discovery.

Sorry for the bad filming.

Shame that Obama would want to cut funding for this.

Sweet! How far away was the launch from your house?

That is cool.

How far away you live?

Yeah, where about do you live? I used to live right outside of Orlando, and could see it on a clear day/night. But I certainly wasnt that close.

I am not sure as to the exact distance from my house to the pad in a straight line but the last time i asked my dad i want to say he said it was ~15 miles.

As to where i live. I live in a little town called Mims which is one exit north of Titusville. Titusville has the Space Hall of Fame, the Visitors Center, and one of the main roads out to the space center.

My house is the green arrow, the space shuttle launches in the area named "Kennedy Space Center" in an area about 1 mile from the Atlantic Ocean.

The next time there is a night launch i will be sure i record it. Night launches are spectacular. As a plus, if i am home when the space shuttle comes back i will record a clip just so you can hear the sonic boom. If you don't know that the shuttle is coming back, it scares the living sh** outta you. The whole house shakes and the windows get a pounding. It seriously sounds like a cannon goes off in front of your house.

In all seriousness, the entire east-central part of the state depends on the survival of the space program. If there is another shuttle disaster, the program is over with. That is why i don't want Obama in because he has said he doesn't care about the space program and want's to cut funding and give it all to social programs. That is what i have heard at least. Please don't turn this into an Obama fight.

Edit: If in case you guys are wondering what "falls off" the shuttle at 1:58-2:00 it is the solid rocket boosters

Neat! I don't think I realized how burly those booster rockets are until I saw the flames coming out relative to the size of the shuttle in the air. Damn!

awesome. i'm sure it would have been real something to see with the naked eye :)
