on NASATV now http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html

only like what, two or three more shuttle flights after this? i want to go see the last one in person.

EDIT: oh wow this is actually the fifth launch attempt that's been made. looks like they've been having some bad weather for some weeks now.

I clicked that link and firefox crashed :<

They are currently on hold waiting for good weather. 20 minutes presently until they resume launch proceedings frozen at T-9 minutes, a storm to the north of Kennedy Space Center is holding them up. Looks like it might get postponed again if the storm doesn't clear out fast enough.

More info on STS-127, Endeavor's 23rd space mission: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-127
Basically they are heading to the ISS to finish installing some of the modules and also tying the record of 13 people in space at one time, also setting a new record for most people on a single spacecraft (13, on the ISS).

It was initially supposed to launch about a month ago but has been scrubbed several times since (much to my disappointment) due to weather conditions. I've got the mission audio on in the background, I'll try to keep the thread updated.

Have they cancelled the launch? I can't understand much of the mumbo jumbo they speak.

Yes, they've been saying for a while that it would probably be scrubbed and in the past few minutes it seems like they have officially scrubbed the launch yet again. I'm not sure what the next possible launch is but I think it's tomorrow.

LAUNCH THAT SHIT THROUGH THE STORMS OF EARTH AND INTO THE QUIET REACHES OF OUR NOBLE FRONTIER CALLED SPACE

Program Note: NASA TV Media, Education and International Space Station streams are temporarily unavailable.

Doesn't matter, they were/are shutting everything down right now anyway.

They're just trying to be cautious.

NASA still has the vivid memory of the Challenger disaster, when massive media attention caused the higher-ups to rush with the launch and scrub some saftey issues, leading tragically to the explosion of the rocket.

Space travel is very dangerous, and it can be hard to balance the desire to lose absolutely no people or property in the process and the immense danger of launching people into the air with what are essentially ballistic missiles.

Lol, its funny seeing traffic down here. The roads come to a crawl whenever there is a launch, and three days straight people have left without a show. But down here in Florida during the summer you have a thunderstorm nearly every day late afternoon, so no wonder its a bitch to try and launch stuff right now. I live only about 15 miles from the launch pad so I'll be sure to record it Wednesday when it launches.

I kind of feel sorry for my dad though, he's had to work four, 12 hour night shifts in a row. He didn't even get to sleep today. :x

a satellite is being launched now as we speak, its happening at 11:25ish pm ET

watching now

0305 GMT (11:05 p.m. EDT Monday)

The Falcon 1 rocket's two stages are being replenished with supercold liquid oxygen that naturally boils off throughout the countdown.

The first stage is loaded with about 15,000 pounds of RP-1 kerosene propellant and 32,000 pounds of liquid oxygen. The second stage was filled with about 2,660 pounds of RP-1 and 6,250 pounds of LOX.

0303 GMT (11:03 p.m. EDT Monday)

Rain is falling at the launch pad right now. The countdown is expected to resume at 0320 GMT (11:20 p.m. EDT).

i heard about the SpaceX rocket launch but missed it. Anyway the Endeavor is scheduled to launch in about an hour (not including some built in holds) and so far it looks like today is a go - weather is good etc. Stay tuned, seems like the launch will finally happen!

I couldn't get the SpaceX stream to work in time. By the time it finally loaded it was over :(
Hopefully i won't miss this one.

if endeavor gets scrubbed again in an hour this will become a running gag

34 minutes left in hold, once that's up it's T-9 minutes until launch, things are all looking good

Yay, live launch. *keeps thumbs crossed*

I saw the Challenger being launched in april 1984. One of the most awesome things I have ever witnessed. The noise is so massive.

I still haven't seen a launch in person yet. Definitely something I want to do one day. I do watch most of them live online though, when they are at decent hours.

Link in the original post still works too.

It's gonna go it's gonna go it's gonna gooooo! 15 minutes!

T-8 minutes and counting, and we are cleared and GO for launch! Godspeed Endeavor!

2 minutes and counting... hood is off the fuel tank, arm retracted...

e: 1 minute til launch!!

Beautiful!

Separation of the external tank.

Some 'stuff' could be seen flying by just before that. That was probably ice.
