If i remember correctly, the Nazi's severly helped the Nationalists instal this dictatorship, hoping to gain another Ally.
Luckily for Spain the Nationalists had other plans.

Like my Granddad got shoved into a nice camp for years by the Germans, because he was in the Dutch army (and yes, we had an army, and yes they had guns too )

Only reason that Franco stayed out of WW2 was because Hitler wouldn't agree to all his terms..

To me, that sounds like the words of a man who knows that he supported a brutal dictatorship, and is trying to distance himself from it for political purposes. Hell, i'd support compensation just to piss off dickheads like him.

Only reason that Franco stayed out of WW2 was because Hitler wouldn't agree to all his terms..

yes, the allies gave franco impunity before during and after the war ...staying out of ww2 hurt spain more than it should have
