For those who don't follow id software as closely as I do, The Quest was the project they were working on before they committed to producing Doom³. Back when id software announced Raven was due to work on Quake 4, they also announced that Nerve Software, who was also worked on RTCW, was set to work on an all new franchise based on an original concept by id. All that was said about the game back then was that it would be multiplayer focused and feature revolutionary gameplay concepts.
It is generally accepted by the Doom³ community that the game Nerve is working on is indeed The Quest, although it has not been officially announced as such. Everything we know about the game Nerve is working on(which isn't much) fits with the idea of it being Quest.
Here is what we know about the game at this point:
* It is based in a fantasy type world.
* The gameplay is a mixture of FPS/Everquest/DungeonMaster type gameplay(Gream Devine, Quakecon2000)
* A group of five players -- on own server -- logs in into the Quest Multiplayer world. Each server represents its own Dungeon, which contains various missions and tasks. All servers together result in then an enormous Multiplayer world. (Taken from a 2000 Gamestar.de article)
* "It is not necessarily team against team, but rather team against the remainder of the world." - Brandon James(Nerve), from 2001
I think thats about it. If anyone here knows more about the game, please add.
I found the following images on the doom3world.org forums. They were done by id software and labled as artwork for "upcoming yet announced game which was in development prior to Doom³". The only game we know of that id software was working on before Doom³ is Quest, so it is likely that thats the game these images were done for.
Again, nothing is official, this is all speculation.
