I've been running the game on a Radeon 9800pro 256 card with a Duron 1300 processor. Average fps was about 30-40.

Changing the graphics settings didn't make much difference, nor did changing resolution, so I assumed it was my processor that was holding the fps back (presumably it's calculating the physics & ai).

I aquired an Athlon xp 2000 processor, thinking it would up my fps.
It does, but hardly (average 30 fps).

I'm not running anything in the background- no spyware, viruscheckers or other apps.

Are there any tweaks I can use to up my fps?

Ensure that fps_max is set to something like 500, just to ensure it's not that blocking it.

Also, I don't know if it helps at all, but I have a similar framerate on a 9800 NON pro 128mb, 768MB RAM and P4 2.66GHz.

How much RAM do you have?

I have been having problems with my Radeon 9800Se myself. The framerate is not as good as my old Geforce4MX440

30fps 9800pro 256mb thats underperforming . What resolution you running any aa on? double check that.
i get 58fps average on willamette core pentium4 1.6ghz ,9600tx 128mb,1.25gb rdram. catalyst 5.1 drivers
