Something for broadband users that will speed up Firefox :E :

1) Type about:config into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2) Alter the entries as follows:

Set network.http.pipelining to true

Set network.http.proxy.pipelining to true

Set network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3) Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0 . This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

You have to close your browser after you make the changes. When you start it back up they will be in effect.

There you have it, faster web browsing. :naughty:

I thought the new firefox release candidate did this anyway?

Not to mention that the hack puts a ton of strain on most servers.

Erm... not really?
You may be downloading site content with the force of 4 - 30 users, but there is still the same ammount of bandwidth being used. And sence the content is comming down faster means users will be accessing the server for a shorter ammount of time.

So really, it all evens out. Though I agree it puts a bit more stress on the server.

Wow, this is great. Thanks a lot. And trust me, 56k is really crappy. Takes 5 seconds to load up Google, no sarcasm.
