Hey, I have been posting quite a lot on this forum resently. Sorry if it seems to be spam. But I have been producing quite a lot of work in preperation for next year.

First of all, all my other work was traced, just to clarify this work has been done by free hand. I didn't copy anything. I just looked at the front cover of Volume2 of Transmetropolitan - Lust For Life (Vertigo Comic)

I decided to choose this image because its kewl imo. Its not the whole front cover. I just wanted to focus on his face.

The image I have produced so far is only an early start. It didn't take me long at all. I really just wanted to use it to get foundation. I will proberly be making a new layer and developing it in my own way with very bold colours. I may try some gradation. I may just experiment. As Dark Elf has told me, its better to try and develope your own style rather than just copy something. I will proberly try to with this next step. I will keep you posted on the development.

Thanks for all the help of those people (you know who you are :D)

Here's one of mine before I saw the original, from your version as reference, you can see its quite different. Kinda reminds me of chinese whispers how things change more and more each time :)

See aren't you glad you didn't trace :)

Course the challenge is to see if you can do the same guy from another angle without any reference :)

hehehehe, I wouldn't go that fast. I only have picked up on skills from one angle. I have the whole collection of graphic novals so I will try some more. Then I will try do it by my self.

Btw, Dark Elf. Did you know those very small pannels on the left and right of your Intuos3 are preasure sensitive mouse wheels. Just go into photoshop and use it, it will zoom in and out. It rocks so much :D

Lmfao, ops. O well. I have another update. I have been doing another image. I decided to get rid of his glasses to see how I went on doing it my mind. Its actually really good. I mean... I had previous drawing experiance from about age 11 - 14 (currently 18) but I'm amazing by after only makeing 3 images I have managed to bring it back. I'm sooo happy :D I know I'm only drawing stuff by sight, there is no real creative toach to it. Its not like I'm designing my own characters. But still I think I'm doing pritty dam well :D

This didn't take long. I was just doing it without thinking about it. I like it even though its not really detailed or gradated very well. That was not my aim.

Can i just ask... how did you do this one? I really like the style of this, i wouldt mind knowing exactly how you did it, thanks :)

by the way, i love all the images. Despite the fact its a copy i like the Light and shade- it varies from the origonal.

*edit* did you do it with a wacom? if so, damn j00! i want a wacom!

This could take some time, ok.

Yes I use a Wacom, I bought a Intuos3 a4 (same as Dark Elf's) it cost me £340. I bought it instead of a x800 XT PE

First of all I drew the first image you saw. This was just for me to get used to it. There is no point putting down paint/ink straight away when by the time you get to the end it could be out of preportion or wrong. This is why I made a very quick and lose sketch, just to get some major details in. Once that was completed I added a new layer with a transparent background. I then used my Transmetropolitan Volume2 from cover along with the refrence image I had already draw to buide me though. I started drawing in solid black ink until all of the black was done (NOTE: ONLY BLACK!). I then added another layer and put it under the solid black one. This was then my dark tone of grey. I went around each area colouring it in. After this I then made another layer with yet another transparent background. This was then a very light tone of grey, which I used with the black and dark grey. Once this was complete it looked how it does atm. I looked at it and noticed it didn't draw enough attention. So the only colour I added was to the glasses to draw you into his face so to speak. I thought it worked quite well. On the glasses I did the same method as with the black, dark grey and grey. But obviasly it was with red and green. Because it was such a simple area I didn;t make seperate layers for each colour. Instead I just put it under the solid black layer and.... thats about it.

Did you buy it from the store I suggested? :)

Nar, I just canceled my order from Dabs for the Intuos2 A4 and re-ordered the Intuos3 A4 from Dabs, which was cheaper and better :D

Bah, shoulda gone to the store, I'd have got the airbrush cheaper then :p

I think they look great, Ichi, makes me want to get a tablet myself :)

I suggest that you do that for a while, but also try to put some of your own poses and stuff every once in a while. If it looks like crap- who cares? You almost definately learn from it every time. :D Good luck, I know I'll need it. :(

Wowowow, thanks for the help everyone. Here is another update. I didn't actually look at the picture at all for this one. I used my image refrence from before obvisably. But all the shading was my own. Hopfully it looks good and makes sense, I think its quite stylish tbh :D

See, your creating your own style. Cool eh :D

Hehehe, true. I can see my self changing 'my' style later on. But atm this one is good :D

Hehe cool, well keep practising :)

though tbh your style would probably be better in a vector app not bitmap.
