Splash Screen then Freeze...HELP! Please

Anyone gettting this or have any suggestions? I DL'ed HL2 last night from Steam. Everytime I start the game I get the Vavle spash screen then a loading screen. Then the game freezes so bad i can't CTRL-ALT-DEL to desktop. CS: Source works ok and I ran the video stress test and get 80fps. Any clues as to why HL2 is not working? In advance... Thanks

You can disable the splash screen. Here's how:
1) Right click on Half-life 2 in your Games list
2) Choose properties
3) Click on launch options
4) Type in -developer and press OK
5) Launch the game

This will speed up the time it takes to get to the main menu. The background won't be 3d but instead will be a place holder image for the area you currently are in.

Did you change anything in the .cfg-file?

Cause I had the same problem after I altered the console key to "²", I then replaced it again with the original key and everything worked well again.
