Sounds quite good, but seriously, from the looks of the pictures it seems like they've done nothing to update the graphics. They're in need of a little updating, maybe the addition of physics as well. A late 2004 release as well, seems like they're gearing up to mass produce the series, producing one every half year or something :/

Milking the old cash cow I see. Then again, I've never even played either of the SC games so maybe the second was as good as, if not better than the first, and the 3rd will continue this trend.

What do you mean they haven't updated the graphics? The characters have normal maps!!! That automaticly makes stuff look great!!!1!

They do look slightly weird actually (the characters)...
Seeing sam pull a knife as he approaches a guard is making me interested though.. I always thought it weird that there was no silent way of killing people, when grabbing them..
I really hope they make the story more personal though, not just political.

Sidenote: It was a tad bit gay how things don't go pitch black in Pandora Tomorrow, like they used too in the original..

I dunno if you're making a joke or what, but I certainly don't see any normal maps in either of the screenshots.

wha?
It was a lame joke, but I was being serious about the normal maps.. :P

(check pic)

Surely that's not modeled, that'd be a waste of polygons IMHO, and they seem like typical normal maps.

EDIT: And the walkway as well, seems to cast shadows where it's lit up. I'm pretty sure they didnt model all those little bumps in the walkway outright!
right...?

Hmmm seem to be suffering from small soldier syndrome (characters look a bit plastic)

Mmm, I dunno. I don't think they're normal mapped at all, especially the grate texture. It seems that the texture was made with the shadow fixed in that position, not because the light is casting a shadow on it.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about the walkway, but still, if that's all modeled on the characters, it still doesn't look better than normal maps would've.
So they should've used Normal Maps for less of a performance hit.

I think they look a bit plastic as well.

I still think those are normal maps :P

Yeah, Abom is on drugs. I noticed the graphics the second I saw them. Looks pretty sweet. Fisher's suit is also reacting to the rain, it's actually wet!!!

Well, if that's the case, characters in SC: PT and SC were probably normal mapped as well, because there's no significant different I can see between SC3 characters and the other two games'. Therefore they've added nothing graphically to update the game yet :p

A Super Moderator on drugs, now THAT'S something to fear..

Yeah, I noticed the wetness too, that's cool.

About differences in graphics, I think they just made the characters look more synthetic.. Not really what I was looking for. :|

EDIT: Actually, Fischer looks pretty damn cool, it's just the other guy that looks a bit... well plastic.. (cliché)

No, Abom, there was no normal mapping in SC: PT. I searched all throughout that game and only saw some bit of specular mapping on some walls and floors.

Well, Sam's always had more graphical detail - higher poly count, more mapping effects etc. because he's the main character, the guy you always look at. Happens with most 3rd person games.

Hey, if you look at his right hand it appears he has a knife. Maybe you get to slit throats in this one! :)

Multiple paths!? Now we're talking!

The only thing I've really been itching for since the first SC, more ways to get to locations, climbing around etc.

Knifing (shanking :P ) and choking!? I've been itching for that too, believe me.

Nice...

Well, at least rag doll physics are there. One of the worst attributes of the SC series was its awful death animations.

You're right, but in a good way. Because its a console title the hardware is standardized and they've alread made several titles using it. They no longer have to focus upon making all the backend code and can instead focus on making a better game from the start.

Don't you be an ass with me! :P
I was too busy oggling the pics to pay attentino to your comments.

Splinter cell 1 was ok, but 2 was suposed to be basiclly just the same. The game has gotten a little bit to comercial. Kinda like Grand Tourismo.

Wha? You didn't even play the second yet you judged it? It was great. It was out right fantastic.

BTW: Anyone seen this ?
This cinematics look pretty sweet.

Splinter Cell 2 would have been a lot better if it was made by the Splinter Cell team.

:bounce: YES!!! I've ALWAYS wanted ragdoll physics and open-ended missions in Splinter Cell! Now I'm looking forward to like twenty high-profile games at E3 :E

[EDIT] @GhostValkyrie: Maybe when you hang upside down on a pipe, you can press the action key to grab the guy or slit his throat?

I hope they continue with the same type of multiplayer... only EVEN BETTER!

And, for the love of God, delay it for the PC if that means a good interface and performance this time!

Considering it's on consoles also, yes it does look fugly.

What does that have to do with anything? The game looks great, and according to IGN it's only being developed for PC. And yes, that does look like normal mapping on both Sam and the guard.

Ubisoft has a reputation for good games on both sides of gaming.
Because the game is also being on consoles, that screenshot may look fugly to that person.

And...listen to Ubi soft...not IGN.

it looks very good.. whether or not its a console is irrelevant. i dont get this damn obession with graphics. who cares if its normal maps, all the splinter cells thus far have been great games, and ifyou dont want to play them because youre a pc fanboy.. thats your problem. i bet the xbox didnt cost nearly as much as even your radeon 9800 so you cant compare the two. one you play in the living room, the other you dont.
