just a suggestion, for spoiler levels

a way to display how "big" of a spoiler it is..... lets use "the empire strikes back" as an example (replace { with [ )

{spoiler=low}luke skywalker returns in this movie{/spoiler}

{spoiler=medium}a little green thing called "yoda" teaches luke stuff{/spoiler}

{spoiler=high}OMFG! Darth vader is is father!{/spoiler}

it would display just like
this
, exept right after "Spoiler:" it would display the sevarity of the spoiler, so it would look like "Spoiler (High):"

sound cool? this way you could see little peices of things you might want to know, without ruining major plotlines...

I don't think many people could resist not looking to these spoilers, so I think the best solution still is not to post them.
On the other hand though I think these forums will have a hard time avoiding spoilers when HL² is released. A lot of people will want to discuss the storyline, offer walkthroughs etc while many others haven't been able to play the game yet. Since the game officially is released then, it's kinda allowed to discuss those topics, so indicating the spoiler level in thread titles and posts might be a good idea.

EDIT: or a seperate child forum could be made.

I could see it being exploited; people writing huge spoilers within 'low' spoiler tags, stuff like that. It's best to keep it simple.

But wouldn't people who would do that simply not use spoilers if it's kept as it is?

Very good idea in my opinion. Often, when facing spoilers in speculation threads, you are unsure whether it's something big or small and check it out anyway, or don't check it out at all.

Wouldn't exploiting it be considered a felony then?
You could set it on High for default, and let people scroll down if they want to change it to medium or low. In that case, "newbies" would not mistakenly write a big spoiler in a low-tagged spoiler, and people purposely writing a very small spoiler would just change it to the low setting.

I have not read any reviews, I have not highligheted any of the spoilers, I have not seen or read the script, I did not play the beta

I r spoiler proof!

except for the one little accident that was the retarded US pcgamer review page 2 picture ...... retards

I would look at the spoilers after a while anyway. I'm just to God-damn curious.

I think it would be a good idea. Besides, if you want to avoid high spoilers at all costs, just read beyond the spoiler post a bit.

You'll probably have the random unsuspecting victim post his anger right after the spoiler, and therefore telling you that spoiler is not the right level. Failing that, uncover it slowly.

I do realize it's abuseable, but with HL2 on the horizon, I can see it being more good then bad.
