I just read here that the combines are human and what came to my mind was this: gman is testing gordon for something we dont know what. What if the evolution of mankind was this: Normal ppl -> combine -> Gordon, and the humans are sold in the universe as "war-slaves"? the gman is a "war-slave" trader and sold the combines to some alien races. but now he is testing a new model of the "perfect human fighter" - Gordon. thats why he lets gordon fight against the combines. he wants to test him and demonstrate his strength to the aliens so they will buy this new model.

it's a bit crazy but i dont find any facts against this.

I seriously doubt thats the case. And I would be dissapointed if Valve did that to us. But its creative nonetheless.

the whole story that emerges from what ive gathered looks pretty similar to The Matrix.

Similar to the matrix? maybe in that there is an all controlling force. But thats where the similarities end.

There not in any kind of Computerized dream world. The main Enemy is Alien, not robots.

I find the atmosphere to be very disimilar to the Matrix.

in what regard?
an alien race coming to earth, dominating it like it did other planets, and absorbing the useful species of the planet into it's order to increase it's forces. Decimating all life that would not conform, or was not useful/could not be used for resources.

the people know full well what is going on, Breen is being diplomatic he would rather conform and die, and in his wayward thinking wants to "save" humanity, resistance fighters would rather die than be immortal and live forever as mere shells doing the bidding of the combine.
I fail to see the similarites, but then again that is what I got out of playing Hl2.

similar in a way of using people to produce something. im still not sure what it is. but theres something into it.

I would hardly consider one aspect as being "the whole story", its a mere ideal that is similar.

I am seriously digging the story, as well as the way it is subtly introduced.

this is the first and only game I am waiting for expansion packs for with baited breath. (ordinarily I could care less about them)

but damn I need something to tide me over until hl3!
