First there's this, quite sketchy...

Then I noticed they graduated to a star and a half, so I did the math and they are at about 10%....so why the HELL is it at 1 1/2?

wtf?

A decent casual game with HORRIBLE DRM issues. Oh well. So much for the hardcore. :x

Because they have an absolutely ****ing retarded DRM system.

Because the uninformed masses who doesn't know anything about the game, or even securom, flooded it with 1 star ratings, because "you can only install it 3 times", that is simply not true.

It is sad that thousands of HC gamers won't play with Spore because of this stupid false rumor, at least I hope that a few years later, when it will be one of the most popular games ever, they will reconsider playing with it.

Many HC gamers won't play it because it's apparently "dumbed down".

(5*89)+(4*59)+(3*25)+(2*66)+(1*2139)/2378 = 1.26 which rounds up to 1.5

You still have to uninstall it "properly", there is still the one account per computer BS and it doesn't stop the pirates.

I support this kind of mass protest, it has more meaning and kicks up a larger fuss than petitions.

It was. Whether or not this is a good or a bad thing is a different matter.

the one consistent complaint I've seen is that the gameplay seems to have been "dumbed down" for the sake of appealing to a more casual audience. Was it?

"I'd say that's quite accurate," Wright told me. "We were very focused, if anything, on making a game for more casual players."

isn't it?

edit: thank you for ruining it for me operational

I hate them so much that I can't be held responsible for what I'm going to do!!

I know!! I will ****ing give this game the worst possible rating on a website!! THAT'LL TEACH THEM!

if you compare the earlier demos with the final result, you can see many instances where it's changes for the worse. I think his initial plan was to develop a game that gave the user an almost unlimited amount of resources and options to create a world in which the finest details could be changed. At leat, thats how I WANTED it to be.

It might seem a feeble and ineffective kind of 'protest' - personally I see it more as a rare example of consumers realising they're being treated like crap and speaking out against it - but you can be sure that EA are NOT happy that their big blockbuster game has got a 1 star rating on the most popular online store. That kind of feedback is likely to cost them more sales than piracy ever would have.

We will eventually get tired and accustomed to SecuROM and online activation, this is the sad thing. All EA games will have this kind of DRM in the future, and we are talking about Bioware top-notch games (Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2) that we are all waiting for.

There should be no restrictions on the products that you purchase. Once you buy it, you should be able to install it on all your PCs as many times as you like. DRM is a plague that needs to go away.

You're right, because there's a good chance that the contract for the DRM on those games is already in place. I'm hopeful, though, that when companies start to see what a PR disaster these measures are, they'll start to slowly abandon them more and more.

I think Spore deserves the 1 Star rating. I got bored playing the game after the first 30 mins. I forced myself to play & made it about half way through the tribal stage before I uninstalled the game. The creature & vehicle creator is fun & I thought the Cell Stage was a blast, but after that, no thanks.

Spore is what Wright and Maxis wanted it to be: The Sims in a new environment. We expected a new Sim Life, with emergent evolution, but that thing is not commercially viable anymore.
