My computer wont turn on, well, it turns on, but nothing shows up on the monitor.
Heres what it is: AMD Duron 1.2
640Mbs pc2100 RAM
Soyo mobo
GeForce2 MX/MX 400
XP pro

When i turn the pc on, no matter what monitor im connected to, the monitor is just blank. Ive had this happen before, but simply restarting made it come up, now it wont.

Im thinking its either my videocard, cpu, mobo, or maybe RAM. Because the bios doesnt even come up. I just got my paycheck so I can buy a new thing, What is the problem? Help!

BTW this is a different (sucky) computer

So you're saying the cumputer turns on and fires up, but nothing appears on the monitor?

Well, make sure you're monitor is pluygged into the video card. open the PC and make sure the video card is in the AGP slot.

Does it beep 3 times from your case speaker? if so you should check that the video card is seated properly in its slot. Try taking the video card out then blow any dust away and seat it back in.

A couple things:

Do the fans spin up? (Does it sound like the computer actually turns on)

Does it POST? (Make a single beep)

If the answer to the first one is no, get another power supply. The bad news here is that if a power supply went, it may have taken some things with it.

If the answer to the second one is no, I'd start with a new motherboard or processor. It could be either of them or both of them =( I wouldn't worry about the RAM, it should be fine.

When did this happen? Was it after a storm or anything? Any power surges or anything funny at all before it finally gave up the ghost?

Oh yeah, a couple other things you can check. Make sure the heatsink fan is spinning and that the heatsink is still properly seated. Also make sure the ram is properly seated.

Oh yeah again, I almost forgot but if everything else looks okay try this:

Unplug everything except the video-card, memory and CPU (and fans/buttons of course) So unplug the HD's, CD-Roms and PCI cards etc etc. Try it now. If it works, plug things in one at a time until it stops working again. If something you plug in causes it to stop working you've found your problem!

Yes, I am saying the computer boots up but nothing appears on the monitor.

The fans start up and the hard drives go, but there is no beep. I dont think there ever was a beep when i turned it on. I Dont remember a beep. Some guy on #hardware @ qnet said the regulator on the video card is broken

Ive replaced the Video card and blew the dust off.

The PC didnt crash, i tried restarting.

HAR!! It turned on finally, after countless resets. Anywho, What caused this? What should i replace?

Probably your vid card, this just happened to me a few days ago. I popped my GF2 MX400 in and it worked fine.

This gives me an excuse to get a 9500 Pro! woot!
