Spyware and popups easy block tricks

Although im delighted that this site dont bother people with popups and other nasty things. I have some simple solutions for you.

1) Get a decent firewall that blocks unwanted scripts and unwanted popups.

2) Get a proggie called Ad aware to scan for spyware every now and then.

And lastly a very nifty trick:

3) Block adsites and spyware sites in their track: Go into C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and locate teh file called hosts.
Open this file with notepad. It should read something like this:

#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

Then add these lines (copy paste) untill it looks like this:

Ahh good tip on the hosts file.


Also I would recommend downloading the new (free) Google toolbar. From what I found it has the best pop-up blocker.
 
You can add just about any website you want here. If you have a family and want to block certain sites so that your kids cant watch them you just add the site to this list. If you want you can block this site, but you don't want that now do you ;)

There are a number of sites added to this list every month i thing, so you can add them to this. A nice site for blocking unwanted sites like the RIAA spies and such nasty things you can find at:

For blocking those nasty spies in their track ;)

Cool. Nice trick about that Google popup blocker! Thanx! Didnt know that. Oh and one more thing. Check to see if this list contain an adress to some site you need. For instance, this list contains a block for paypal.com If you use that site some, then you know what is blocking you from access. Just remove that. But i dont use paypal so i need it. They spy on you to .... .... ... *twilight zone theme*
