Squad combat?

What do you reckon the squad combat would be like?

I HOPE it's like Freedom fighters, man I dig that game's style. Plus it seems that there will be medics too. My hype meter is rising - I never really thought HL2 would go seriously into the whole squad thing. I was expecting A.I. controlled squad (as in the old barricade video). Hope there are commands.
 
Squad combat??? do you mean co-operative gameplay?? didnt know that was a feature?!

Fun. Thats all I have to say. And since it has a "Squad Following" thing, I suspect that there are commands.
 
I wouldn't expect it to be a massive part of the game, or even for you to necessarily use it if you don't want to. There'll be some people that just want the guys to follow you and shoot at stuff, whereas there'll be others that will really get into commanding their squad tactically.

And I guess it'll be handy either way for you to have that little bit of extra control over the AI.

Instead of radio commands it could be something like Brother In Arms where you right click & hold or something :)
 
So long as it is simple very well intergrated then I'm all for it!

I can't wait to play through the game then get round to messing about, it's gonna be awesome!

yer....that would be fun. but tbh, id just rather be on my own, i mean Barney just pi***d me off in hl1, ended up nailing him for the ammo after a while, damn stupid waypoint technology!!

I'll probably use one of my guys to cross a trip mine in my way. The A.I. would probably go into the red lasers if I told it to.
Then I'd use my magical powers to bring him back.
 
Forgive me if im wrong but If I remember correctly didnt HL opossing force have somthing like that in it with the diferent soldiers, you would command to sawder a door or move in or something?

I tried hard to keep everyone alive in Black Mesa, and I kinda felt sorry for barney and the scientists. :LOL:

AgentM you just pressed the use key and they would follow you, the rest was scripts. ;)

"wow.. YEAH I GOT ONE!" and i think i will snap! :angry: .

Was only messing, I used barney for a little bit, but really only nailed him when i first started hl, and didnt know what the concept of ammo conservation was. I find his face (pre high def pack) really funny lol...much like the Gmans, he looks REALLY constipated! :LOL:
 
I cared about Barney, but always killed the scientists with the magnum
 
but the thing that bothers me, is how can you care for Barney?? i mean he had like 5000 clones!! Nail one barney....3 loads later..

hopefully in hl2 there will be only one Barney! :afro:

Im interested to see how they put in the squad commands, i've got small hands, there's only so many keys i can reach while running around fragging combine on my keyboard. I assume it'll be certain tactical commands:
follow,
stay

and the ai does the rest :
grouping together,
spreading out,
running away from enmies to reload or running in to fight etc.

I imagine the squad combat will be similar to the squad combat in Freedom Fighters, which is to say amazing.

Freedom Fighters ranks as one of the best gameplay experiences I have ever had.

I really hope!

I noticed that all the resistance fighters and alyx seem to carry a radio of some sort - I wonder that's how you communicate? radio commands?

Oh trust me, in HL² I'm gonna abuse the "use" key 'till Barney decides to actually pay up on that promise and take me to a bar in City17 otherwise I'll wipe out the manipulator and steal his wallet! :LOL:

heh, It would be interesting if they knew that you where sending them on a suicide run and said something like "I don't think so Gordon"

Anyway, the squad AI is the main thing I look foward to in this game. It plays a big part in my mod concept, where squad AI is used on both teams in multiplayer.
